Newsletter 4 – 23rd Sept 2011

Dear Parents

School led clubs These are the special interest clubs run on a voluntary basis by teachers, parents and other helpers in school. They are free to children. These clubs will start in the week commencing 26th September – the permission slips went out last week. If you would be able to help with any of the clubs do let us know. We always appreciate support and it means we can do more with the children if we have extra helpers.  We do appeal to parents to be prompt in picking children up after clubs since teachers have a lot to do before the following day’s teaching.

Neither football or tag rugby had a significant take up so these will NOT run. Instead we are offering a winter sports club where a number of different sports will be on offer eg football one week, rugby the next, basketball the following, and so on. A letter is being sent home today please return it asap if your child wishes to take part as we would like to start the club on Tuesday 27th September.

Trips To make learning more exciting and more relevant for our children, we love to take them out of school on trips. Last academic year we conducted a survey of parents’ views on these trips and it was good see that parents are overwhelmingly in support of school trips. We do have to finance these trips with voluntary donations from parents and if many parents do not or cannot offer the donation, the trip might have to be cancelled. The school subsidizes the trips as much as possible and keeps the costs as low as possible but we do need your donations. As long as we have enough donations for the trip to go ahead, no child will be refused entry to the trip. Last year we went to the Ashmolean museum inOxford,ChepstowCastle, the local vineyard, the seaside and many other little trips to enhance and enrich the children’s learning. This term we are organising a trip to the Cotswold wildlife park and another trip to the vineyard, as well as a trip toSalisbury to explore diversity there and have a go at making food from other cultures and countries at Waitrose.

Local Partnerships We are always pleased to be able to support our local community in a variety of ways. Amongst other things, we offer work placements for GCSE and A level students from the local state and fee paying schools, our premises are used by the local football club for their practice and matches on the weekends, we support local charities such as the Devizes Food bank, and also international appeals, Brownies use our equipment for various events and the local Preschool uses our premises whenever they need to. We also benefit from the many partnerships we have, with Lavington school (currently offering our most able Y5 children a challenging maths course), Dauntsey’s school  (sports coaching and D&T projects as well as loan of equipment), our local primaries (sports tournaments, sharing resources, moderating work) and so on.
