Newsletter 39 – 20th July 2012

Dear Parents

All of us at Holy Trinity wish you a very restful, happy and refreshing summer holiday.

Back to School Tuesday 4th September (Year 1 – Year 6) and Monday 10th September (Foundation Stage)

Leavers’ Assembly  This was a wonderful tribute to our outstanding Year 6 children – what a tremendous cohort this year group has been. We will very much miss them, and we all wish them the very best as they transfer to their secondary schools.  Congratulations also to the winners of the awards and trophies across the whole school.

Leavers’ Trip The children in Year 6 had a great trip to celebrate their last few days together as a class

Secondary Schools I have had some questions about where our Year 6 children will be going to for their secondary schooling and the breakdown is as follows:

10 to Lavington Secondary school, 4 to Dauntsey’s, 1 to St John’s School in Marlborough, 1 to another fee paying school, 2 to St Augustine’s and 1 to a school in another part of the country.

School Choir Following their tremendous performance at our summer evening music concert, our choir is going to enter for the Devizes Eisteddfod on Saturday 17th November. Ms Sharman and Mrs Edwards will audition children for this, and the auditions will take place on Friday 7th September at lunchtime. If your child is interested in taking part in the preparation and performance at the eisteddfod, and is in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6), remind them to come along to the audition. They do not need to prepare anything for this. They also have to be ready to spend much of the day and (if they win) the evening of the 17th November at the eisteddfod. We plan to hold the rehearsals at lunch time so there will be no after school commitment for this activity.

Keep Safe Every year at this time, I am asked by the County to remind children of the dangers of playing in or near water or near to railway tracks – more likely to happen when the children have so much more spare time. I would also like to remind children not to touch anything that is hanging from an overhead power line – for instance if their kite has become entangled. Whilst we do not want to frighten children or to have their childhood freedom inhibited by overwhelming concern for health and safety, it is worth mentioning these issues to children who are playing outside of direct adult supervision.

Charity Donations We would like to inform you that this year we have sent a total of £860.34 to several charities as follows: £50 each to Cancer Research, Age UK, Oxfam, Help for Heroes & RSPCA – which were chosen by the children. A massive £547.04 was raised by Stonehenge & White Horse for Sport Relief and £63.30 was sent to Christian Aid. In addition the children have raised money towards several other charities and the school on our fundraising afternoon held in the hall.

Sports Stars Holiday Club will run during the summer holiday in the following two weeks: Monday 23rd July to Friday 27th July and again Monday 13th August to Friday 17th August. There are a few spaces left so you can just come along on the day if you wish to.

Clubs Sign up forms for dance club, drama club and street surfing club need to be returned on the first day back, if not before, in order for these clubs to commence in the new term.

Potterne Church Holiday Club – On your marks!  This is another fun event. To be held in the Potterne Vicarage garden from 23rd July – 27th July from 10.00 – 12.00. If you want any information please contact Dave and Ann Howard on 01380 723 189. There are registration forms for this club available at the school office.

Children’s Movie Night  Join us for another fun-filled adventure at Brounckers House, Erlestoke on Friday 17th August from 6-8pm. Hamptons present Swimming and BBQ followed by a film! (Don’t forget to bring your suits!) Donations of £1 for food are gratefully accepted.  Children under five must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

The PFA AGM will be held on Monday 17th September in school at 2pm, at this meeting members will be elected and roles filled. If you are able to help out on the PFA, then please think about joining and come along to the AGM in September.

Best wishes

Mercedes Henning
