Cricket and Quad Kids Our children have had some amazing achievements in the past week! Our cricket team came second in the interschool tournament run by Dauntsey’s school – a great achievement. Well done, cricketers and thank you to Mr Gyllenspetz who accompanied and coached the team last Saturday.

And our team of Year 5 and 6 children who took part in the Quad Kids competition at Bath University on Monday have excelled. This competition includes four events, a sprint, a long distance run, a standing long jump and a throwing event. There were 240 children at the competition, from large schools in Devizes, Chippenham and other towns. The highest scoring boy and the highest scoring girl both came from our school, our children recorded the two fastest times in the 600 metre run and the longest distance in the throwing and our school scored, by a significant margin, the highest number of points overall. We achieved 6 gold awards and 2 bronze awards. What an achievement! So our team will be going through to the next round. My thanks to Mr Amor who leads sport in our school and to our wonderful children who are so courageous, talented and aspirational.

Forest Schools Lots of our older children took part in lighting fires with flint and cooking over their own fire this week – along with other amazing Forest school activities. My thanks to Mrs Goddard who is Forest Schools trained and who runs these sessions for us.

Seaside trip All children in KS1 (Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2) will be going to the seaside on Wednesday 3rd July. They will visit the Oceanarium and have their lunch on the beach (weather permitting). Please make sure your child has a packed lunch for this trip and is wearing their school uniform. They will have a great time learning more about their theme of “Under the Sea” and the children always enjoy the coach trip!

Cathedral Trip  Children in Year 6 will be attending the Leavers’ Service at Salisbury Cathedral on Tuesday 2nd July – they will need a packed lunch for this trip. The day involves some lovely art and drama activities in the morning, followed by lunch, and then a well-planned service with lots of child participation led by a senior member of the clergy of the Cathedral. The children will be back at school by 3.00pm.

Midsummer Night’s Dream Please make sure you have tickets for this performance – there are a few spares if you need them. Also, please make sure your children are in school by 4.30pm on Thursday 4th July so that they have time to put on their costumes before the performance at 5.00pm.

Parents and Friends Association We are so lucky to have an amazing, dedicated and creative team in our PFA who work so hard to raise funds and provide extra enrichment for our children’s educational experience. Lisa Downing, who has chaired the committee brilliantly this year, will be stepping down and we urgently need someone to step up and take the reins for the coming year, or part of the year. Please do consider putting yourself forward for this. The PFA provides so much for our children and is also a lovely way to meet other parents socially.

Sports Day Lunch All children who have ordered a lunch on Sports day will have a packed lunch rather than the usual roast, so that they can eat outside with everyone else in a picnic. A form has been sent out so that you can order the packed lunch your child will prefer on the day. If you want to cancel your order for that day, please let Lataca know. Please send the forms to Lataca as soon as possible (or bring them to the office and we will send them on for you).

Fun Maths Roadshow Children in Years 5 and 6 had a great time solving maths puzzles on Tuesday, at an event organised and delivered by the maths department of Dauntsey’s school. It was lovely to see how hard they worked to solve the puzzles, showing great perseverance and resilience even when the puzzles were really tricky. We are grateful to Mrs Mallett for providing such an excellent event where our children could really challenge themselves and use their maths knowledge in different ways. We love maths in our school!

Trip in the first weeks back All children will be visiting Aerospace Bristol in the first two weeks of September as part of our work on modern, contemporary history. Children will see the last Concorde to fly, will design and test their own flying models and will find out about the history of flight. We find that these field trips in the very first days of a new year inspire great learning and enthusiasm. It does mean we have to plan everything this side of the summer holidays. Notes will go out about the event shortly.

SuperStars Holidays course with be running their popular multisport holiday course at the school this summer. SuperStars will be running 2 weeks of high energy sporting fun. They have over 40 different sports, popular games and activities which are all designed to make sure the children are kept active and are having the best summer possible! Your child will also receive a FREE SuperStars sports cap if you book before Friday July 5th. To book visit If you have any questions then please contact SuperStars directly on 0345 2413682.
