Newsletter 34 – 9th June 2017

Dear Parents

Pilgrimage Day On Thursday 15th June (next week) all children in the school will be taken by coach to Edington Priory Church for a Pilgrimage Day experience. The theme will be based broadly on Pentecost, and children will be given the chance to reflect on their role in the community, reaching out to others and challenging prejudice. They will take part in interesting activities to do with each theme. After a morning of activities, we will have our lunch either on Ralph’s Seat or, if it is raining, in the church.

It would be lovely if the children could wear something red on their school uniform or in their hair– red being the colour of Pentecost.

Please note that Lataca will be providing picnic lunches for all those who would usually have school dinners on that day – please complete the form sent home today to choose which kind of sandwhich your child would like.  If you provide a packed lunch, please make sure it is easy and suitable to eat as a picnic on this day. We will come back to school after lunch.

We always enjoy Pilgrimage Day and are very grateful to Rev’d Andrew Sinclair and the congregation of the Edington Benefice who have joined so enthusiastically with our school to ensure that the children are given a great experience.

School Start Time A reminder to all parents that our school day starts at 8.40am! Thank you to all who make sure their children are here for Wake and Shake which is part of the curriculum.

Residential Trips    Children in Years 5 and 6 had a wonderful time at the Forest of Dean at the end of last half term. They took part in lots of adventure activities and learnt a lot about independence, resilience and courage, as well as friendship and team building. My thanks to Mr Amor and Mr Gyllenspetz who, with our wonderful admin team, organised this trip and to Mrs Andrew and Mrs Trusler who so kindly offered to accompany the trip as well. It is a huge responsibility and very exhausting for the staff, and we are very grateful for their commitment to our children.  As ever, our children behaved beautifully, and it was lovely to see how they supported each other through the challenges.

Around the World in Eight Plays The children in Year 3 and 4 are rehearsing for their production of “Around the World in Eight Plays”. It looks great fun and the children are doing a terrific job of learning their lines and developing the drama of the plays. My sincere thanks to Mrs Jones and Mrs Goddard who have done a huge amount of work adapting the play for our children and who are working so tirelessly to ensure a good outcome. Parents will soon be offered tickets for the performances which will take place on Tuesday 4th July and Wednesday 5th July.

Trophies If you won a trophy at our prize giving last year, or if you know of anyone else who won one, please arrange for them to be returned to the office so that we can have them engraved with this year’s prize winners. These prizes will be awarded in the final Leavers’ Assembly at the end of the summer term. There are academic awards, as well as awards for swimming, art/drama, fellowship and citizenship.

Sports Day A reminder that our sports day takes place on Wednesday 12th July at 9.15. It will finish at about midday and you are all invited to bring a picnic along and have lunch with your child on the field. The bell will ring at 1.00pm and the children will have afternoon school as usual.

French Concert Sadly, we shall have to postpone our French concert this year as the weight of all the other activities has completely filled our diaries.

Year 6 transition visits to Lavington School  On Thursday 22nd June all the children who have places at Lavington School for Year 7 in September are offered the opportunity to spend the day at Lavington School to learn their way about and to meet some of their teachers. You will need to drop them off and pick them up afterwards and the letter you should have received will give you more information about the day.

D&T at Dauntseys Our Year 6 children will go to Dauntseys on Friday 16th June to make clocks in their D&T suite.  We are always grateful for the outreach that provides our children with these opportunities.
