Dear Parents

Seaside trip All children in KS1 (Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2) will be going to the seaside on Wednesday 3rd July. They will visit the Oceanarium and have their lunch on the beach (weather permitting). Please make sure your child has a packed lunch for this trip and is wearing their school uniform. They will have a great time learning more about their theme of “Under the Sea” and children always enjoy the coach trip!

Cathedral Trip  Children in Year 6 will be attending the Leavers’ Service at Salisbury Cathedral on Tuesday 2nd July – they will need a packed lunch for this trip. The day involves some lovely art and drama activities in the morning, followed by lunch, and then a well planned service with lots of child participation led by a senior member of the clergy of the Cathedral. The children will be back at school by 3.00pm.

Letter of commendation We received a very complimentary letter from the Sports Centre Manager at Dauntsey’s school where our children take their swimming lessons. He commended them on the way they get on with their sessions, do their best each week, and show really excellent sportsmanship in the competitive elements of the course. He says “They are an absolute delight!” We are very proud of our children – they are a credit to the school and to their families.

Midsummer Night’s Dream Parents of children in Years 3 and 4 will have received tickets to our performances of the abridged version of this play which will be staged on Wednesday 3rd July at 2.00pm and Thursday 4th July at 5.00pm. If you have tickets you will not be using, please return them to the office for re-distribution. If you wish to have extra tickets, please write in and ask.

Sports Day Weather permitting, our sports day this year will take place on Wednesday 10th July, starting at about 9.15. The events will be finished by about 12.00pm and then you are welcome to stay and bring a picnic lunch to share with your child on our field. The bell will ring for afternoon school at 1.00pm as usual and children will line up and go into school then for the rest of their day.

Ukulele performance Wednesday Ukulele group will give a short performance at Sharing Assembly on Friday 12th July. Remember, everyone is welcome to attend Sharing assembly every Friday at 2.15pm, when a few children from each class will share something of the work they have done that week. It is informal and unrehearsed but great fun for all.

Year 6 events Parents of Year 6 children are invited to their restaurant on Tuesday 16th July in the afternoon (all food is prepared by and served by the children) and also to their Leavers’ Assembly on Monday 22nd July at 2.00pm. At the Leavers’ Assembly the children will reflect on their time in our school and we will have our awards ceremony. This is a moving and lovely event where we say good bye to our Year 6 children formally.

Clothing lent by the school If your child has an accident in school, we will always provide fresh clothing for them to wear. However, in Stonehenge classroom, a great deal of this clothing has not been returned and they are now really short of spare clothing. Please, if your child was sent home in clothing from school, would you wash it and send it straight back?

Polite request If your child comes home and tells you about something that happened to another child in their class during the school day, please do not contact the parent of that child to discuss it. There may be many reasons that this would be a very inappropriate contact to make, possibly leaving both parent and child in an uncomfortable position. If the parent wants more information, they will contact the school and the matter will be dealt with using clear data protection guidelines. Children have a right to have their privacy and data protected and we have duty to ensure that happens.

Parents welcome meetings Please make sure you have these dates and times (see below) in your diaries so that you can find out about your child’s class and meet their teacher for the coming year.

Residential Trip Meeting All parents of children currently in Year 2 and Year 3 are invited to come to a meeting here at school on Wednesday 26th June at 2.30pm to discuss the upcoming residential trip which the (then) Year 3 and Year 4 children will have in October 2019.

Entry into the school Once children have left the classroom at the end of the day, the teaching, support and admin staff then start the hard work of putting everything together for the next day of learning. If we have a lot of children running back into school over the course of the afternoon to use the toilets or to pick up things, it is difficult to get on with the work we are trying to do here as everyone who comes into the building should be accompanied by a member of staff. Unless your child is attending an after-school club, please do not send them back into the building except in an emergency.

Change of Bank Holiday next year The Government has altered their May Bank holiday next year from Monday 4th May 2020 to Friday 8th May 2020 to coincide with the VE Day celebrations. We have attached a new copy of the School Term and Holiday Dates for 2019/20. TD Days are also highlighted.
