Newsletter 34 – 18th June 2021

Dear Parents

Covid: Delay in Easing of Lockdown  As cases of Covid start to rise exponentially, and as we are now engaged in a race between the virus and our vaccination programme, we will be continuing with the current restrictions for another 4 weeks until 19th July. Even after that, the prime minister has rightly asked us to be “sensible” about our approach.

This means, sadly, that we will not be able to invite parents onsite for Sports Day. As a school, we will hold the event with children in “Class Bubbles” rather than “Houses” or teams and Mr Amor has a plan for this to be a very successful and enjoyable day for all our children, as it always is while being as safe as possible for everyone at school .

Also, the Year 3/Year 4 summer performance will be moved to the last week of term, Monday 19th July and Wednesday 21st July, with parents being invited just to the “Playlet” that includes their own child so that we can reduce the number of adults in the hall (assuming that restrictions have indeed ended by then, and with a view to continuing to be sensible about infection risk).

We are hoping to be able to run the Silbury Class Restaurant but it will have to be held outdoors with social distancing – which is something of a challenge but we are working on plans for this. It will probably mean having at least two sittings to be safe. We will keep you informed.

We hope to continue with the Year 3/ Year 4 campout on the school field though we will now have to keep the children in their “Class Bubbles” throughout the event. This will, again, take a bit of planning, managing and extra tents, but we are hopeful that we will find a way through.

For the Parent/Teacher meetings on the 12th and 14th July and for the Familiarisation Meetings in the last week of term, only adults may attend. Please make arrangements to have your children looked after if you attend these events, as they will not be allowed onto the site at these times.

We know that you will be patient with us as we try to navigate our way through all of these issues and we assure you we are doing all we can to provide your children with the best possible education under the circumstances.

Punctuality at Drop Off and Pick Up  As case numbers rise in Wiltshire, it behoves us to be extra cautious about spreading the infection through school contacts. It is absolutely essential that parents and carers abide strictly by the time slots allocated for their child’s drop off and pick up. Please do not allow your child to cross Bubbles on their way in and out of school, and please do not come so late that children have to be brought to the office – this puts our staff at risk and also impacts on their workload. It is also uncomfortable for the children who find themselves in this position. We understand that on very rare occasions, there is a real, unavoidable emergency, and of course we are ready to support in those circumstances but please let us know as soon as possible.

Iron Age Day On Tuesday, all our children had the amazing opportunity of experiencing something of the Iron Age culture in the UK. The Iron Age forge, using just wood and some leather bellows, was very impressive as iron was heated and forged into various tools. And the lifestyle presentation showed how surprisingly advanced people were in those days – weaving, bee keeping and cooking very effectively. My thanks to Mrs Jones who organised this wonderful event through the museum in Salisbury. Children and adults really enjoyed it and we all learnt a lot.

Class Photos Mr Gyllenspetz, our school photographer, will be taking class photos on Monday, 21st June. These will be offered as hard copies for a very small cost in due course. We are very grateful to Mr G who does such beautiful photos of our children.

Wrap Around Care We can now accept up to 25 children in our Wrap Around Care provision so if you would like your child to attend either Breakfast Club or After School Club, please complete and send in the forms, to be found on our website: . Children have a wonderful time at the provision, with Mrs Roberts-Phare and her helpers ensuring that amazing, creative activities are always available.

Hot weather Please send your child into school with a sunhat and a water bottle – these are essential as they play outside in the summer term. It is also very important that all items of clothing are marked with your child’s name – jumpers are cast off regularly at this time of year and often we cannot return them to their owners as they have no names written in them.

If your child shows ANY SIGN of Covid infection, they (and any siblings) must not come into school – this is really important! Any temperature, cough or change to sense of taste or smell requires a test and isolation. Keep your child at home if anyone in your house has Covid (10 day isolation), or Covid symptoms until a negative PCR test has been returned. No Lateral Flow Tests to be used on primary school children.

Best wishes

Mercedes Henning
