Newsletter 30 – 8th June 2018

Avebury Exhibition All parents of children in Avebury class are invited to come to school on Tuesday 10th July from about 1.30pm to enjoy an exhibition of work that their children have completed this year. It will be a lovely opportunity for your children to talk to you about their work and to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with you.

Pilgrimage Day On Wednesday 13th June (next week) our children will be taking part in a Pilgrimage Day. This involved a morning of workshops followed by a walk to St Peter’s church in Great Cheverell for a short service. The theme this year is St Francis and focuses on how we can look after our world, combat climate change and reach out with compassion to those around us. The workshops include art and craft activities on the themes, time for reflection and mindfulness.

NSPCC workshops As part of our campaign to help children to keep themselves safe from bullying, abuse and online problems, we shall be having presentations from NSPCC next week on Tuesday. Please have a look at the NSPCC website as there is a lot of good support on there for parents who would like to find out more about keeping their children safe.

Cycling and Scooting on School Grounds A reminder that ALL children must dismount from their vehicles and push their scooters and bikes once they are on school property. Whether they enter through the car park or the pedestrian gate, no child should be riding their vehicle once they are on school property. It is not safe for other people to have little people riding on bikes and scooters, and it is not safe for the riders either. Please do not let your children go onto the staff car park where they are almost invisible to staff driving into the car park. They must stay on the pedestrian pathway.

Year 6 D&T experience We are always very grateful to Dauntsey’s secondary school for the outreach they offer to our children. Next week, all year 6 children will be taken to their D&T workshops to make a clock using modern and exciting equipment and with expert support.

Year 3 and Year 4 Performances A reminder that children in Year 3 and Year 4 will be presenting their wonderful summer plays – this year using Roald Dahl’s amazing stories – on Wednesday 27th June at 2.00pm and again on Thursday 28th June at 5.00pm. Tickets for these performances will be going out shortly.

French Café Experience All classes except Silbury class (who will be running a different restaurant experience) will be hosting their parents to a French Café event. You should have received the invitations this week and we ask that you will return the slips by Friday 15th June so that we can cater effectively. You will be encouraged to chat to your child in very simple French (some advice will be given to help with this) and you will have the opportunity to work through some maths problems as well – so that you have some insight into the problem solving that your children engage in each day. (You do not have to solve the maths problems in French!)

To try to make things easier for parents, we shall be holding the meeting about Hooke Court for children who will be in Year 3 and Year 4 next academic year after the French Café experience for White Horse class. At this meeting, parents will hear about the one night residential trip that will be offered in October of 2018. You will be encouraged to ask any questions you may have and will have plenty of information about the trip.

Performances by children taking music lessons outside of school Everyone who has applied for a place at our music event on Tuesday 12th June at 10.45am has been given a place in the programme. Please make sure your child has been well prepared for this. Parents/carers are welcome to attend the performance which will probably last no longer than 20 minutes or half an hour.
