Newsletter 28 – 29th April 2016

Dear Parents

Monday 2nd May is a public holiday! Enjoy a lovely weekend and return to school on Tuesday 3rd May.

School Choir Our choir gave a beautiful performance at the Wiltshire Choir of the Year competition on Tuesday. They performed “Penny Lane” by the Beatles, “Hushabye Mountain” from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and “Double Trouble” from the Harry Potter films. We weren’t lucky enough to get through to the competition final, but the choir’s singing was of a very high standard indeed. Some comments from the adjudicators were “A lovely choice that you executed very well with a fine tone and good diction”, “You created a beautiful atmosphere and your soloists sang beautifully”, “Your unison singing is really lovely”. We are very proud of everyone who performed in this competition.

After-school choir will continue on Mondays through May (on the 9th, 16th and 23rd) to practise some new songs for the school concert on May 24th. Any child in KS2 who enjoys singing is welcome to join these three sessions and sing in the concert. The planned songs are “One Call Away” by Charlie Puth and “When I Grow Up” from Matilda, the Musical.

Our thanks to Ms Sharman who does so much to ensure the excellence of music in our school.

MDSAs We are sad to say good bye to Mrs Brown who is leaving our MDSA team, but delighted to welcome Mrs Hiscock to our staff.

Summer sports club for years 5 & 6 with Mr Amor will commence on Tuesday 3rd May from 3-4pm.

Canal Trip The children in White Horse class had a wonderful time at the Devizes canal this week, finding out about the history and function of the canal and also having the chance to ride on a narrow boat. Because our children always behave so beautifully, it is a joy to plan off site trips like this, and children are inspired to learn ever more effectively. My thanks to Mrs Mehaffy and her team who organised this trip, and to our admin staff who work so hard to ensure that these trips run without a hitch.

Poetry workshops Each class in the school is having a poetry workshop run by Akulah Agbami during the course of this term. It is always fun to have specialists run workshops for the children and they learn a tremendous amount from these visits. Akulah focuses on helping children see the world through the eyes of a poet, using imagery and unusual vocabulary choices to build an emotive picture for the reader.

Summer Blues At this time of year, we notice that people are a lot more likely to fall out with each other and argue. We are not sure whether this is because they are tired through sleeping less in the shorter nights, or whether they are hot, or whether they are starting to think about the changes that might come about in the next academic year. However, it is something we notice every year through the summer terms. We do ask that you help your child to maintain a sense of proportion, to support them to mend relationships and to find ways to live amicably with those around them.

Pupil Premium A reminder that if your child is entitled to the Pupil Premium funding, we do ask that you sign up for it – it is a significant amount of money and we will use it for many school activities, in addition to helping to pay for music lessons and school trips for your child. If parents do not sign up, the school simply does not get the funding and, with budgets being increasingly tight, it is important that we access every penny we can to ensure the outstanding education we provide here at Holy Trinity can continue.

Last day of half term is Friday 27th May. Do not forget that Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th June are TD days and we all come back to school on Wednesday 8th June.
