Dear Parents
Summer Time We are so much enjoying the sunshine and warmer weather! We do ask that you ensure your child has a sunhat in school and that they have sunscreen applied, and also that they always have a water bottle in school. We encourage the children to drink throughout the day and this is especially important in the warmer weather.
The children are asking if they can eat outside, picnic style, now that it is warmer and drier. Those who bring packed lunches will simply be able to do this as they always have done in summer. If your child is in the Infants (Foundation stage, Year 1 and Year 2), then they will mostly be eating their hot dinners under the universal infant free school meal scheme. We always serve these indoors, of course, and they will always be available. But if you wish your child to eat outside, please select the “Other Option” on the Lataca order form and they will make sure that it is portable (in a paper bag or plastic pot). Also, on Fridays, the hot meal can be eaten outside on disposable plates with wooden forks.
Themes for the summer term:
Stonehenge: Wildlife – Rumble in the Jungle!
White Horse: Time travel
Sarum: The Quiltmaker’s Gift
Avebury: Renewable Energy
Silbury: Renewable Energy
We are very grateful to Sam Gaiger who has offered to take all our children to see a solar farm, after a workshop in school to discuss some of the issues around renewable energy. These trips will take place in June. Climate change is going to impact hugely on our children – they need to know something about it all.
Magna Carta Day All the Year 1 and Year 2 children will be going to Salisbury Cathedral to enjoy a day exploring aspects of the Magna Carta and its impact on our country and the rest of the world. My thanks to Mrs Mehaffy for organising this trip and to all our support staff and volunteers who ensure the children’s safety and enjoyment on these trips. Please remember to send your child in with a packed lunch on that day!
Skipping workshop We are delighted to be able to run the skipping workshop again this year! This very popular activity will take place during school time next week on Wednesday 29th April. Each class will have a workshop on skipping games suitable for their age. Last time we ran this, parents were disappointed that we had not offered them the chance to purchase skipping ropes on the day, since their children were so inspired by the workshop, and we had to try to purchase them afterwards. So this time we are offering parents the chance to send money in on the day, in an envelope with your child’s name and class and the rope required, and the workshop provider will send your child home with the rope you requested. The children’s ropes are £4 each or £6 for a ‘solar’ rope, adult £6 and 4m long ‘family ropes’ £7.50each, or two for £14 for ‘Double Dutch’. They are all good quality, professional speed ropes. Last time we had this workshop, the children skipped for weeks afterwards!
Pupil Premium A reminder that if your child is entitled to the Pupil Premium funding, we do ask that you sign up for it – it is a significant amount of money and we will use it for many school activities, in addition to helping subsidise music lessons and school trips for your child. If parents do not sign up, the school simply does not get the funding and, with budgets being increasingly tight, it is important that we access every penny we can to ensure the outstanding education we provide here at Holy Trinity can continue.

They train and play at West Lavington and we are part of the Mid Wilts Youth League. Currently they play and train on Saturday’s, however next season the boys will be playing on Sunday and training on Saturday (usually mornings).
