Newsletter 25 – 29th March 2019

Dear Parents

Last day of term   Friday 5th April is the last day of term and we all return to school on Tuesday 23rd April.

Charity Afternoon Parents and carers who are supporting their child’s group with the Charity afternoon on Tuesday 2nd April next week, please arrive at the school at about 1.00pm (no earlier, as we will still be clearing the hall from lunch). The first customers (children from various classes) will be coming through the door at about 1.25pm. At the end of the event, please help your group tidy up and count the money, and then please send the money off to the charity nominated. We would like to have a copy of any letter of thanks that they return to you for our records.

For all parents – Please feel free to send your child in with a pound or two to spend at the Charity afternoon stalls on Tuesday 2nd April. Most of the events cost about 20p.  Please put the money into an envelope with your child’s name clearly marked on it.

Dragon Dress-Up Day What a wonderful afternoon we had on Tuesday as Sarum class had a Dragon day! They found treasure on the field, wrote about it, made short films on the theme, and entertained their parents with some of the work they have done through the term.

Woodland Day Children in Stonehenge class spent the morning in the local woods on Tuesday, making and finding things, working together and enjoying the woods. We are very fortunate to have such a lovely environment in which to educate our children.

Easter Craft Afternoon Parents of Stonehenge class are invited to come into school on the afternoon of Monday 1st April at 2.15pm to enjoy making Easter craft items with their children. We are very tight for space, so only one person per child, please, and no buggies or babies to ensure that we can keep everyone safe.

SATS and summative assessments In May, we have to deliver some of the statutory assessments set down by the government. We take the opportunity to carry out little summative assessments of all our children at this time. The younger children’s assessments are very informal, the older children have little tests. We ask that you do not concern yourself or your child with these assessments. No work needs to be done towards them except your usual reading, spelling and times table practice. The results of the tests should not be a surprise to you or to the teachers – they simply secure the judgement of the teachers who have been assessing your children daily throughout the year, and which you already know about. Please do not put any pressure on your child as this will cause them to worry and then they will do less well, whatever their ability. Your child is very well prepared for the assessments.

Transition data As children transfer to their new secondary school (or their next primary school), the data that we hold on them will be sent on to the receiving school. As well as personal information such as birthdates, ethnicity and the like, these data will include academic, SEND, behaviour, welfare, safeguarding and child protection data.

Gardening Club Gardening Club will meet again after Easter. The sessions will be as follows: 29th April, 13 May and 20 May then after half term sessions will run on 24 June, 1 July, 8 July, 15 July and 22 July. Gardening Club grows vegetables in the raised beds, maintains the flower borders and pots, and the willow structures within the school grounds. This year however we will not be able to achieve quite so much, and will concentrate on shorter projects. If your child would like to join Gardening Club please ask for an application form from the school office. Places are limited to 12. We are reliant on parent helpers to run the club, and those children who are able to be regularly accompanied by an adult will have priority in joining over those who do not.  The rest of applications will be decided on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to find out more about gardening club or be involved in running it, please call Liz Read on 07967 803420.

General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) We want to remind you that some companies associated with the school may hold your data but we have not shared that data with them – they obtained it directly from you. They hold the data because they have entered into a contract with you. Included in this group of companies is Lataca, Cool Milk, School Transport, Super Stars Holiday Club, Peripatetic coaches and tutors, the Library Service and private counselling or parenting courses. This is not an exhaustive list but these are the kinds of organisations who may have your data but there is no school responsibility for keeping those data secure. The companies themselves will be abiding by GDPR and will have their own polices and protocols to keep your data secure.
