Newsletter 24 – 18th March 2016

Dear Parents

Somewhat unusually, the last day of this term is Thursday 24th March – and we all come back to school on Monday 11th April. Holiday Club will run for the first week of this holiday – sign up details below.

Parents invited to Stonehenge Class and Sarum Class It has been lovely this week to have so many parents join their children in their classrooms to share the work that has been completed during the term. Our children really enjoy showing the work that they have done and it is great for parents to see how their children spend their time when they are in school. My thanks to all the teachers and TAs who have worked very hard to make sure these events passed so successfully.

After school clubs  Due to staff training netball with Mrs Goddard & winter sports with Mr Amor are cancelled next week ( Tuesday 22nd March). We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Netball club will continue into the summer term but winter sports club will not.

PFA My thanks to our wonderful PFA who work so hard to ensure that children’s experience of school life is enriched by events such as the disco, the Bake-off and so much more. The project to raise funds for the outside classroom is gaining pace now and we are very excited about the possibility of having the structure in place before the last half term.

Our thanks to Mrs Wilding for helping to judge the Bakeoff. It is a very difficult task, as you can imagine!

e-safety It is a hugely important part of every parent’s responsibility to ensure that their children are safe online and there is a good website with engaging interactive activities that you might like to use with your child to support you in this work. There are activities appropriate for all school aged children and we do recommend that you have a look at these. The website is:

Reading for fun It is really important that children read for fun. At school, we have a variety of books, magazines, newspapers, blogs and child friendly website etc. that children can access and can read for fun. If you are wondering how to encourage a reluctant reader, please do not feel that they have to read a book from cover to cover – any reading is good! Comics, magazines, articles online, emails, websites on subjects that interest them – anything at all that will encourage a child to read is to be valued. The local libraries have a huge variety of books and other media which might interest your child.

Children who read and do a bit of writing over the holidays come back to school better prepared for the new term than those who don’t. They might like to keep a diary, or make up a magazine on a subject that interests them, or write a story, a postcard, a letter, a poster – anything at all. On our website there is a link to a lot of activities that you might like to try at home. Follow the link “Information for Parents” and go to “Learning at Home” or follow this link: .

Safety of our children Please make sure that you have clear sight of your child when they are on the school site under your supervision before and after school hours – too often we see children engaging in unsuitable behaviour whilst parents’ attention is elsewhere. Children know that school rules must be obeyed at all times when they are on site – even if it is before or after school hours.
