Newsletter 23 – 15th March 2019

Dear Parents

Parent Teacher meetings Thank you to all the parents who came along to the parent/teacher meetings this week – we are always delighted with the response to our invitation to these meetings, and this term 95% of parents attended the meetings. This remarkable turn out reflects the high number of very supportive and engaged families in our school. Education is a joint project between families and school and one of the reasons for our huge success is the strong commitment of our families.

Pilgrimage Day On Tuesday 19th March, we will be taking all the children to Edington Priory for a “Pilgrimage Day”.  Singing, crafts, reflection time, discussion and drawing/writing are included in the various activities that will help children reflect on the school values and their own philosophy through the story of Easter. The church provides a beautiful, tranquil space for this event and we are very grateful for the welcome we are given.

Please send your child in with a packed lunch on Tuesday 19th March, as we shall be eating at the church.

Performance at Dauntsey’s Children in KS2 (Years 3, 4 5 and 6) will be going to watch “Danny, Champion of the World” at Dauntsey’s secondary school on Monday 18th March (this coming Monday) after lunch. We will take them to the show in coaches, but parents must remember to pick their children up at 4.15pm at Dauntsey’s school on that day. A letter has been sent home detailing the parking and collection point.

Facebook Pages Both the school and the PFA have Facebook pages – please do go online and follow them. There is a lovely, active and supportive network that operates on the PFA page, so please do involve yourself in this online community. The school page often has photos of things that are going on in school.

Recorder Choir It was lovely to have a very good recorder choir of (mainly) professional musicians and music teachers perform for our children on Tuesday. They brought with them some amazing recorders, including the extraordinary cuboid shaped contra bass recorder, which is nearly 5 feet high. We heard some lovely pieces of baroque music as well as more contemporary pieces. We are very proud of our own little recorder choir which accompanies and plays for us so beautifully and this performance showed them where they might like to aim as they continue with their music studies. Our thanks to Mrs Jenkins (one of our peripatetic music teachers) for arranging this for us.

Charity Afternoon Thank you very much to those parents who have signed up to support a group for the Charity afternoon on Tuesday 2nd April. We shall be allocating stalls to the successful applicants early next week. Please note that if you have offered to help, you will need to support the children with their preparations in advance, supervise their setting up and taking down of the stall on the day, help them manage the money and send the money to the charity that they have chosen. We would like you to let us know how much was raised and to let us have a copy of the thank you letter that the charity sends back. We are, as ever, very grateful for your generous support of this event. The children gain so much from planning, running and packing up their own little stalls and we hope that they manage to do most of it by themselves.

Superstars Holiday Club This very popular club runs from Monday 8th April to Friday 12th April. You can come every day or just whenever you wish. They have over 40 different sports, fun activities and themes that the children will be taking part in. Everyone from the school is welcome as they accommodate age 4-11. If you have any more queries or would like to book on then contact SuperStars directly on or call 0345 2413682. Spaces are likely to fill up fast as they can only take 30 children per day.
