Newsletter 12 – 7th December 2018

Dear Parents

Christmas Performances Please note that EVERY person must have their own ticket if they are watching the shows, even if they are a pupil here, a younger child or a baby. We have to adhere strictly to fire regulations and we cannot allow young children into the hall if they do not have their own ticket, otherwise we will be in breach of our fire risk assessment.

Please also note that there will be NO crèche this year between the performances, so parents will have to make arrangements to pick up and drop off their children if they have children in both performances. We do encourage you to consider lift sharing since there is so little parking available and these evenings are very busy and crowded.

Times to drop off and pick up for evening Christmas Performances:

KS1 children: Drop off at 4.40pm at the back door of the classrooms. Pick up at 6.00pm at back door of classrooms.

KS2 children: Drop off at 5.50pm, to come in through back doors of their classrooms quietly as the other performance will still be in progress. Pick up at 7.10pm at the double doors in the hall.

Bed time story Children in Stonehenge class are invited to come back to school this evening at 5.00pm in their pyjamas for a bedtime story, hot chocolate and marshmallows. This is always great fun. Please be prompt picking up at the back door at 6.00pm as the children (and the staff!) will be tired.

Pantomime Thank you very much to the PFA who raised the money to take all our children to pantomime in Salisbury. What a good time we had there! It was very professional, glamorous and participative and the children had fun. As ever, our children behaved beautifully and it was a pleasure to take them out.

New Balance Trail And another thank you to the PFA for purchasing the new balance trail that was installed on our field this week. It has been very muddy and boggy up there so the children have not been able to access it as much as we would have liked – but once the ground has recovered from the installation damage and the weather dries out a little, they will be able to enjoy the trail and work on their balancing skills.

Hockey team We are very proud of our hockey teams who won the recent interschool hockey tournament held at Dauntsey’s school last Saturday. It is a great moment for our children to be able to hold up the trophy as the best hockey players in the area! Well done to all. Our thanks to Mr Amor who gives up his Saturday mornings to organise and accompany the children to these tournaments.

School Bus The school transport department at the Local Authority have offered our children the chance to take part in training on getting on and off the bus safely and doing up their seat belts efficiently. We will have this training for bus children on Monday 10th December.

Christmas events As well as the Christmas plays, our children will also have a Christmas service at St Peters in Great Cheverell on Thursday 20th December at about 9.30am – everyone is welcome to join us for this lovely event, with singing, storytelling and quiet time for reflection. After that, we will have our Christmas party, with food provided by the PFA (and our generous families), and noisy party games organised by Mr Amor and Mr Gyllenspetz. Children are allowed to wear their party clothes on this day, providing they are warm and they have sensible shoes, as there is the walk to the church in the morning. On the last day of term, we will have a quiet meditation with candles in the morning and then we will have our Lataca Christmas dinner – most children have this dinner, but if your child prefers a packed lunch, please feel free to send this in. Then after that we have the Science Boffins in for an afternoon of entertainment before the holidays begin. A reminder that also on the last day of term, at 9.00am, we will be holding a special assembly to say good bye to our cleaners who have worked for so many years, so faithfully, and are now retiring. Please come along to this if you are able.

Straps on book bags We are having too many accidents involving children tripping over or getting their feet caught in the straps on book bags. We are therefore asking all parents to remove the straps from the book bags, and let the children carry them by the hand hold instead. We should only have the very thin, portfolio type book bag in school as storage space here is a real issue. No rucksacks or back pack type bags, no larger portfolio type bags should be coming into school.  They present health and safety issues for us.
