Newsletter 1 – 4th September 2015

Dear Parents

Welcome back everyone! It is wonderful to have the school filled once again with happy and excited children. A very warm welcome also to the new families who have joined us this academic year. We hope that you will quickly become part of our engaged and supportive school community.

Parents’ Class Welcome Meetings The teachers will be holding their annual familiarisation meetings in the coming week. All parents are invited to attend the meeting for their child/ren’s class where the teacher will talk about classroom routines and expectations, homework, reward systems and various other matters and you will be given the opportunity to ask questions. We do encourage each family to send a representative to these meetings. Each meeting will be held in your child’s classroom. If you are not sure, ask your child which class they are in. The dates and times for each class meetings are as follows:

Tuesday 8th September 2015     Stonehenge class (FS and Y1)                  5.00pm

White Horse class (Year 1 and Year 2)      5.30pm

Wednesday 9th September 2015  Sarum class (Year 3 and Year 4)            5.00pm

Silbury class (year 5 and 6)                     5.30pm

Avebury class (Year 4 and year 5)          6.00pm

Thank you! All the teachers have asked me to thank everyone who sent gifts in to school for the staff at the end of last term – we were, as ever, overwhelmed by your generosity and thoughtfulness. We were especially touched by the messages in the cards and notes – it is heart-warming to have our work so clearly appreciated.

New children Our youngest children start school on Monday – many of their families are new to school and I do ask everyone to help them to feel welcome and part of our community. Please stop and have a word with the new parents if you see them – it makes such a difference to a new family if someone takes an interest in them when they are still trying to find out about school life with their little ones.

Secret codes! Sometimes we use vocabulary or acronyms that you may not be familiar with – please alert us if we do this so that we can make sure we are clear in our communications. We will often use the term KS1 or KS2. These stand for Key Stage 1  (which is Year 1 and Year 2, and usually we include the Foundation Stage children in this group as well), and Key Stage 2 (which includes Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6).

Sharing Assembly Please remember that sharing assembly takes place on Fridays at 2.15pm where a few children from each class share their successes and experiences of learning with the whole school. All parents are welcome to attend this assembly which gives insight into all the work going on here.

Please note the change of date for the Braeside residential trip meeting! Now on Thursday 24th September 2015 at 5.00pm for parents of Year 3 and Year 4 children!

Swimming at Dauntsey’s School pool will start for Sarum class this term. We will notify you nearer the time with information about the start of swimming lessons.

Recorder lessons commence on Friday18thSeptember, so please remember to bring your recorder to school!

Guitar/ keyboard lessons will start again on Wednesday 9th September. Please remember to bring your guitar into school.

Clubs: At Holy Trinity we offer a wide variety of special interest clubs. Some of these are led by our teachers, teaching assistants or parents on a voluntary basis (and there is no/very small charge for these). Others are run by experts or professionals in the field and there will be a fee for these clubs. We offer various short courses through the year as well as the usual permanent clubs.

School-led clubs Permission letters for clubs will be sent out shortly.  Most school-led clubs will start in the week commencing Monday 28th September (except School Choir and Gardening – see below). The letters will make it clear which age group can be admitted and in which afternoon or lunchtime the club will run.  These clubs will include Handbells (Monday at lunchtimes), Choir (Monday after school), Gardening (Monday after school), Winter sports club (Tuesdays after school), Cricket club (Wednesdays after school), Chess (Friday at lunchtime), and Art (lunch time to be advised). Most of these clubs are for children in KS2 but the gardening club and art club are open to younger children. Many of our clubs are limited to a certain number of participants and the places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Other Clubs These are the fee paying clubs run after school in the hall or on the playground by private experts, coaches and trainers – those who have signed up for these clubs should already know when the first session is. These clubs are, at the moment, as follows: (The sport offered at the Monday club will change each term)

Monday:  Football for Years 1 to 6 run by Go-Active   (KS1 and KS2) Please see attached letter

Wednesday:   Ukulele experts                                                   (KS2)

Thursday:        Ukulele beginners                                              (KS1 and KS2)

Thursday:        Judo                                                                    (KS1 and KS2)

Choir practice will start after school 3-4pm on Monday 7th September for those children who have been invited to sing in the Eisteddfod/Songs of Praise choir this year. Permission slips and £9 payment (made out to Holy Trinity) need to be returned to the office – the slips went out at the end of last term. This choir will rehearse every Monday 3-4pm until the Eisteddfod date of November 9th.

Gardening club  Gardening club starts again on Monday 7th September from 3.00pm – 4.00pm for those children who are already signed up for the club. If your child no longer wishes to attend, please let Liz Read know on 07967 803420. We are down to our absolute minimum number of helpers now and we urgently need more adults to assist with this club. Please consider volunteering – no knowledge is required and it is only one hour per week. We would be happy to enter some produce for the Cheverell’s Gardening Club Show on 12th September. There are entry forms in Reception if you wish to enter.

Reminder Children are not allowed to have mobile phones in school. We also cannot allow rucksacks in school – there is just no room to hang them and they cause trip hazards. Draw string bags can be used for PE kit.
