Newsletter 1 – 2nd September 2016

Dear Parents

Welcome back everyone! It is wonderful to have the school filled once again with happy and excited children. A very warm welcome also to the new families who have joined us this academic year. We hope that you will quickly become part of our engaged and supportive school community.

Stonehenge Trips: Please make sure you send your child in with a packed lunch on the day that their class goes to Stonehenge next week (See table below).

Parents’ Class Welcome Meetings and residential trip meeting The teachers will be holding their annual familiarisation meetings in the coming week. All parents are invited to attend the meeting for their child/ren’s class where the teacher will talk about classroom routines and expectations, homework, reward systems and various other matters and you will be given the opportunity to ask questions. We do encourage each family to send a representative to these meetings. Each meeting will be held in your child’s classroom. If you are not sure, ask your child which class they are in.

Residential Trip Meeting We will also be holding the meeting for parents of all children in Year 3 and Year 4 (those in both Sarum and in Avebury classes) to talk about the residential trip that these children will be going on Monday 10th October and Tuesday 11th October – the children will spend the night at Hooke Court and will take part in lots of wonderful activities over their two day stay. Do come along to this meeting to find out more and to ask any questions you may have. We have tried to make this as convenient as possible.

The dates and times for each class meetings are as follows:

Tuesday 6th September 2016

Sarum class (Year 3 and Year 4)                              5.00pm

Thank you! All the teachers and support staff  have asked me to thank everyone who sent gifts in to school for the staff at the end of last term – we were, as ever, overwhelmed by your generosity and thoughtfulness. We were especially touched by the messages in the cards and notes – it is heart-warming to have our work so clearly appreciated.

New children Our youngest children start school on Wednesday – many of their families are new to school and I do ask everyone to help them to feel welcome and part of our community. Please stop and have a word with the new parents if you see them – it makes such a difference to a new family if someone takes an interest in them when they are still trying to find out about school life with their little ones.

Secret codes! Sometimes we use vocabulary or acronyms that you may not be familiar with – please alert us if we do this so that we can make sure we are clear in our communications. We will often use the term KS1 or KS2. These stand for Key Stage 1  (which is Year 1 and Year 2, and usually we include the Foundation Stage children in this group as well), and Key Stage 2 (which includes Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6).

Sharing Assembly Please remember that sharing assembly takes place on Fridays at 2.15pm where a few children from each class share their successes and experiences of learning with the whole school. All parents are welcome to attend this assembly which gives insight into all the work going on here.

Recorder lessons commence on Friday 9thSeptember, so please remember to bring your recorder to school! Guitar/ keyboard lessons will start again on Wednesday 7th September. Please bring your guitar.

Clubs: At Holy Trinity we offer a wide variety of special interest clubs. Some of these are led by our teachers, teaching assistants or parents on a voluntary basis. Others are run by experts or professionals in the field and there will be a fee for these clubs. Not every club is open to every age group – so please check the permission letters when they come out to check that your child is eligible to sign up for a particular club. Permission letters for clubs will be sent out shortly.  Some clubs have already asked for sign up and will commence immediately. Most school-led clubs will start in the week commencing Monday 26th September.

Gardening Special Sports by Go-Active (Archery in first term)
Winter/summer sports Judo

Ukulele, gardening and judo Clubs start in the coming week (week commencing 5th September). Eisteddfod Choir recommences on Monday 12th September.

Gardening Club There are a few spaces available in Gardening Club – if you would like your child to attend, please meet Mrs Liz Read after school on Monday 5th September and sign up. We always welcome parents to support us with this club and if your child is in KS1, your child must be accompanied by an adult.

Reminder Children are not allowed to have mobile phones in school. We also cannot allow rucksacks in school – there is just no room to hang them and they cause trip hazards. Draw string bags can be used for PE kit and flat portfolio type bags for reading books. Please make sure your child has good, black school shoes – no boots, no ankle boots, no sandals, no trainers or any other type of footwear should be worn to school except trainers for PE. We are a “Nut-Free” school as we have children with severe allergies on site. Many thanks for your support and cooperation with the management of our children’s safety and wellbeing.
