Wonderful Children We are, as ever, very proud of our children, many of whom have completed their summative assessments this week. They face these challenges with cheerful courage and optimism, and always aim to do their best. They have enjoyed this week which involves a lot of PE, cooking, projects and art in between the assessments. Thank you to our families who have supported their children so beautifully through the year.
Summer Music Concert Do come along to our very popular Summer Music Concert on Tuesday 21st May at 5.00pm. This event is for those children who take music lessons through the school’s extracurricular and peripatetic music provision and who have reached a standard of performance that is good enough to be included in the concert. Your child’s music tutor will let them know whether they have been included in the programme or not. If not, they will always have another chance next year.
Performance for musicians taking lessons outside of school If you would like your child to be part of a little concert to showcase musicians who take music lessons outside of school, we shall be holding that event on Wednesday 12th June at 10.45am. You will need to be responsible for ensuring that your child plays to an acceptable standard, and has rehearsed their piece. Please complete the slip at the bottom of this letter so that we can put together a programme. In the event that there are very large numbers of children, we will offer places to the older children first. Parents/carers are welcome to attend the performance which will probably last no longer than half an hour.
Class Splits At this time of year, some parents may start to feel anxious about which classroom their child will be in next year. We ask you to trust us to make the very best decision for your child – every child is important and we will make sure that we do the very best for each one.
If your child is moving into Year 1, Year 4 or Year 5, they will be in a split group. However, they will continue to follow the Year 1, Year 4 and Year 5 curriculum, whichever classroom they are in. Our analyses show that children do equally well in all classrooms – they are tested on the same tests at the end of the year, and statistics show that their progress and attainment meet or exceed the targets equally well in all classrooms in our school.
Please do not put pressure on your child to try to achieve some goal of being in a specific classroom. This leads to anxiety and a sense of having “let you down” if they do not achieve the goal. Decisions about class splits are made on the basis of the child’s academic achievement through the year and the number of children in each year group and classroom. We can assure you that children are taught at the edge of their learning regardless of which classroom they are in.
Trophies If your child received a trophy from the school at our annual presentation event last year, it is now time to return it so that we can prepare for the presentations for this year. We have awards for sport, swimming, music, drama and, of course, for academic success, as well as for good citizenship and living generously in a community.
Forest of Dean residential Trip The coach will leave the school shortly after 9.00am on Wednesday 22nd May and will return sometime around 3pm on Friday 24th May. We will keep in touch by text if there is a delay in the return trip – please do not feel that you need to phone in to check.
Please make sure that your child can carry and pack their own bag and that any prescription medication or travel medication has the correct paperwork completed and has been handed in to the teacher. Please do not send any food or electronic devices except watches and a torch. Mobile phones do not work in the Forest and would, in any case, provide a distraction and too much responsibility for the children. If children want to bring a camera, please let them use disposable cameras since they are likely to get wet or lost.
Hard copies of the newsletter Please contact the office if you would like to receive a hard copy of the newsletter each week. We are aiming to reduce paper consumption but we are happy to provide these hard copies to those who need them.
Devizes Tennis Club are offering free tennis coaching/try out on Sunday 19th May. Rackets and balls provided. 10.00 – 10.45 for ages 5 and under, and 10.45 – 11.30 for ages 6 – 10.

Disco night tonight! Harriet Cleveley has kindly organised the event for the children. Please remember to bring your child along at 5pm for KS1 and 6pm for KS2 and £1.50 for the entry!
