All the Year 6 children are in our class, and some of the Year 5 children. Our teacher is Mr Amor and our teaching assistant is Mrs Heath. Although we have to work hard on test preparation to be ready for the SATS in this class, he makes sure that we still have lots of great activities and topics to do so that we enjoy our learning.
This term we are completing our work on the theme of “The Titanic” since it this year marks the anniversary of its sinking. There is a lot of history, geography, science and literacy to be learnt through the study of the Titanic and the events around its building and sinking. We have also found out that many other famous events took place in 1912, including Scott of the Antarctic’s adventures. So our learning has taken several side tracks and we have had the chance to find out about and write about many more events than we had expected.
Once we have completed this work, we will be working on the theme of Olympics, which will include a visit to Bath University to have coaching on some of the facilities that are being used by Olympic athletes in the run up to the Olympics. We are looking forward to lots of sporting events through the summer term.
We are expected to set a really good example to the rest of the school since we are the oldest in school. We also have to carry out various responsibilities to help keep the school running efficiently. We help to organise Collective Worship, run stalls in the fayres, look after younger children when we walk to church, help with organisation of sports day, Wake and Shake and many other things. We also prepare ourselves to move to secondary school which is a great adventure.
