Dear Parents

Clay Modelling Club  We have arranged for an artist in ceramics, Gary Wood,  to come along on Tuesdays through the summer term to lead a clay modelling club. He will provide the clay, his expertise and all necessary equipment, take the models back to his kiln to glaze and fire them and return them the following week. By the end of the 6 week course, the children will have several items that they will have made themselves. We have offered this club before and it was very popular and resulted in some really lovely pieces of work which the children were delighted with. The club will run after school on eachTuesday from 12th June to 17th July.  It will run from 3.00pm- 4.00pm. The cost for the 6 week course is £36 and is payable in advance. Cheques should be made payable to Gary Wood and must be accompanied by the permission slip at the bottom of this letter.  Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The club is offered to KS2 children. Please have your responses back at school by Friday 23rd March. You can view some of Gary’s work at www.garywoodceramics.co.uk or www.onetwofiveartschool.com. Dear Parents

Church-school links We have once again been invited to join with the congregation of Great Cheverell to celebrate Mothering Sunday on Sunday 18th March at 9.30am at St Peter’s church in Great Cheverell. If you would like your child to take part in this service (there will be the opportunity for them to do some of the readings and prayers, and mothers will be given flowers by the children at the end of the service) please do complete a slip or write us a note. This is always a lovely service, centred on mothers and children. We do encourage anyone who is interested, even if you do not usually go to church, to come along.

Dear Parents

Parent- teacher meetings These will take place on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th March. Slips to book a meeting have been sent out and must be returned by Thursday 1st March. The final precise appointment times will be sent back to you on Friday 2nd March – do look out for these notes. We would like to remind you that you are welcome to make an appointment to see your child’s teacher at any time – but these parents’ evenings are an opportunity for a short, formal discussion on your child’s progress. We aim to give you an appointment as close to your preferred time as possible, but it is not always possible, as you can imagine with over 100 families in the school. We also try to coordinate meetings for those families who have more than one child in the school where possible.

Dear Parents

Half term holiday We break up for the half term break today and return to school on Monday 20th February. We wish you all a restful holiday – perhaps with snow!

Bluebell wood In response to requests from the children, made through their class representatives at School Council meetings, we have opened up the “wild area” on the south west corner of the field so that it is more usable by the children. The clearing brought to light some beautiful clumps of bluebells and lovely animal habitats in amongst the trees and shrubs that make up the environment. We want the children to enjoy visiting this area, quietly and respectfully, as a habitat for wildlife and a place where they can explore and learn about woodland in a very small area. It would be lovely to develop this further through the seasons, and perhaps have some bird boxes, insect houses and hedgehog dwellings installed. We have explained to the children that it is an area that they visit and treat with respect – no running around in there or using it for games. This area belongs to the wildlife whose home it is and the children will be responsible for caring for and preserving it as far as possible. Continue reading
