Newsletter 26 – 1st April 2021

Dear Parents

Have a wonderful Easter break! We wish you all a very happy Easter and look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 19th April.

Pilgrimage Day What a wonderful day we had on Wednesday! Our annual Pilgrimage Day took place on our school field, rather than in Edington Church this year, and it was so special to have the whole school out there, carefully separated and keeping to their Bubbles, but visible to each other.

We spent the morning reflecting on many aspects of the story of Easter – a story of courage, suffering, compassion, friendship, forgiveness and joy. Whether our children are people of faith or not, this is an inspirational story and they had time to reflect on these themes and how they impact on their lives.

There was an extraordinary atmosphere of joy and positivity, and a real sense of our community coming together to celebrate the day. We are very grateful to the clergy who supported us so strongly with this event, leading each activity separately for each group of children. And our huge thanks go to Mrs Edwards who is so efficient at organising all the resources that we need for events like these.

Church Visits The children in Stonehenge and White Horse classes walked to St Peter’s church in Great Cheverell (separately, to ensure the Bubbles did not mix) this week for a little Easter reflection. They walked around the outside of the church first, enjoying the beautiful weather. Then they went inside for a few moments of quiet time. These quiet and reflective times are valuable for everyone’s spiritual growth and mental health.

Brass instrument and Ukulele lessons If you would like your child to have tuition from our amazingly talented Mr Gundry in brass instrument (cornet and trumpet) or individual ukulele lessons, please contact him on info@maestromania.co.uk. Mr Gundry has instruments for you to hire if you would like to do that. Lessons will be on a Thursday afternoon, either in school time or just after school. Please make contact within the next three weeks so that Mr Gundry can plan his timetable. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Everything will be arranged and delivered in line with strict Covid restrictions and protocols, of course.

Forest of Dean Residential Trip The Government let us know this week that, as long as Covid infections are not increasing too much, and all other aspects for the easing of lockdown are in place, we should be able to plan residential trips to take place from Monday 17th May. This is very good news for us, because our annual Forest of Dean residential trip for Year 5 and Year 6 is booked for the following week, from Wednesday 26th May to Friday 28th May. So, all going according to plan, this trip should be good to go. Further guidance will be issued over the next few weeks which will help us plan the trip in a Covid safe way, and we will send out information for parents as this becomes available to us.

Holi Celebrations and Bollywood Dance Please do complete and send back to school the permission slip for our wonderful celebration day which will centre on the Hindu festival of Holi. We will have Kalpesh back in school on Wednesday 21st April to lead us through some great activities which will help us understand more about a faith and culture different from our own. If you wish your child to take part in the powder paint colour fun, we need the permission slip for the activity which will be messy. Please send your children to school in old clothes on that day! As well as the colour activities, there will be Asian music and more Bollywood dance for children to learn and to enjoy.

No After School Club on Monday 17th May Please remember that there is NO After School Club on Monday 17th May, as we have whole staff First Aid Training on that day. You will need to make alternative arrangements. We apologise for the inconvenience caused but staff first aid training is a statutory and necessary requirement, as you will understand.

Piano lessons start on Monday 19th April If your child has their usual lesson on a Monday, please send them in with their music books on the first day back after the Easter break.

Covid Track and Trace If your child falls ill with Covid, confirmed by a positive test, over the Easter weekend within 48 hours of attending school, please let us know so that we can do the track and trace work for contacts they may have had at school. You don’t need to let us know if they fall ill after Easter Saturday.

A message from St Peter’s Church in Great Cheverell: “We thought that your pupils might enjoy making an Easter garden over the holidays so Revd. Marion has made a video showing how to do this and explaining the significance of the things in the garden.”

The video and an instruction leaflet are on the church Facebook page:

Please encourage your children to take a photograph of their Easter garden and share it with the congregation of St Peter’s so that they can make a display for the church.

The congregation of St Peter’s wish everyone in the school community a very Happy Easter.

If your child shows ANY SIGN of Covid infection, they must not come into school – this is really important! Any temperature, cough or change to sense of taste or smell requires a test and isolation. Keep your child at home if anyone in your house has Covid (10 day isolation), or Covid symptoms until a negative test has been returned.

Best wishes

Mercedes Henning
