Our Amazing Children! What a wonderful week we have had! All our children have returned to school exceptionally well. They are cheerful, positive, courageous and hardworking, as they always are. Because of the tremendous efforts of our families, most children have made steady progress through the curriculum and have returned to school very well prepared to pick up their learning journey here.
We have been amazed at how well children have adjusted to being back in school after such a long break – it is as though they have just come back from a half term holiday. They continue to be good friends, responsible students, joyful people. They continue to throw themselves into their learning with enthusiasm. They continue to behave beautifully. We could not have wished for a better return to school and we offer our sincere thanks to all our families who have ensured that their children are in such a good place to pick up where they left off before Christmas.
Gentle Start We have made sure that children have had lots of time to socialise this week – we know that this is what they have really missed during Lockdown. They have all taken part in projects that involve team work or chatting with each other, they have had longer and more play times than usual, and they have had the opportunity to ease back into school gently.
We will be assessing children’s progress and attainment over the next few weeks, using teacher assessment mostly, through classwork and outcomes in projects. The older children will have slightly more formal assessments but these are nothing for them to worry about – simply a way for us to establish the areas of greatest need for planning the next term’s teaching and learning. If any child is not on the learning trajectory that we think they should be on at this time in the school year, they will be given extra support to accelerate their progress a bit so that they feel comfortable with their own achievement. But, at this stage, we have no serious concerns about children’s outcomes either academically or emotionally.

If your child shows ANY SIGN of Covid infection, they must not come into school – this is really important! Any temperature, cough or change to sense of taste or smell requires a test and isolation. Keep your child at home if anyone in your house has Covid (10 day isolation), or Covid symptoms until a negative test has been returned.
We must continue to bear down on this virus so that we do not have any new surges of infection.
Foundation Governor Recruitment We have a vacancy on our Governing Body for a Foundation Governor. This is a person who is a practising Christian and who, along with all the other Governor responsibilities, takes a special interest in the Church character and the Christian ethos of the school and who aims to ensure that this is upheld strongly. As you know, our school has a Church foundation, and the Christian Ethos is at the heart of our success, so this is an important role.
There are 6 Full Governors’ meetings each year, and there may be other panel or committee meetings that form part of your particular responsibilities. And then, how about taking part in the Global 200 Million Minute Challenge throughout March? Children and young people from across Wiltshire are invited to complete a special library log each week and email us the total number of minutes read. All reading counts – paperbacks, magazines, comics, plays, newspapers and e-books are all great. Wiltshire libraries have lots of wonderful books and eBooks for children and young people to read, free to borrow and reserve for library members: wiltshire.gov.uk/libraries-ebooks. It’s free to join the library and can be done online: https://libraries.wiltshire.gov.uk/web/arena/join-the-library.
Prizes will be awarded to settings and organisations who achieve the highest average number of reading minutes per child or young person. Certificates will also be available to individuals who reach key reading targets during the challenge. Let’s see if we can win one of these prizes!
