Newsletter 4 – 27th September 2019

Dear Parents

Harvest Thank you to all who contributed towards our Harvest appeal for the Food Bank in Devizes. Last year, the Devizes Foodbank gave out over 1,500 food boxes! And they rely entirely on donations. Thank you also to all who attended the school Harvest service on Thursday at the local church.

Fire Drill We have regular fire drills to ensure that we can keep everyone safe in the event of an emergency. On Wednesday, we had the first drill for this year and we evacuated the school and completed roll call in one minute and forty seven seconds which is very impressive, especially considering that it was the first drill for the youngest children.

Parents and Friends Association (PFA) AGM Please come along to our PFA AGM which will be held in the hall on Wednesday 2nd October, (next week) at about 2.30pm. The PFA do amazing work in our school, providing enriching opportunities for our children by fundraising and by working on projects such as the Christmas Party. Joining the PFA is also a good way to meet other members of our community.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Lisa Downing for leading the PFA this year – she has done a brilliant job, with her teams providing all sorts of wonderful events for the children. We need a new Chair so please consider this role. We have never had to disband the PFA – someone has always come forward even at the last minute – and we are sure that the same will happen this time.

Reading and Maths afternoon for parents – Tuesday 15th October at 2.00pm. Please do come along to this event. Supporting your child at home is a really effective way to help them make good progress. The event comprises a workshop and a short classroom experience with your child.

Calendar available online We have planned some of the regular significant school events in advance for the whole year – including the Christmas Plays, Summer Music Concert, Year 3/4  plays, Sports Day, Parent/Teacher meetings and so on. There will be many other events as the year progresses so keep an eye on the newsletter and other letters from the school.

Volunteers’ Update Everyone who volunteers to help in our school must have an update on safeguarding children, on health and safety and on data protection. We will run the update for volunteers on Thursday 3rd October at 2.30pm in the Art Centre.

All data is processed in line with the General Data Protection Regulations which came into force in May 2018 and with various Education legislation.

Collective Worship It has been suggested that we mention the Collective Worship themes we follow each week so this will become a standing item in the Newsletter. Please remember that you are most welcome to join us for worship each day at 10.00am in the school hall for about 20 minutes except for Fridays, when this is replaced by Sharing Assembly. This week, we were reflecting on Harvest, how beloved each child is, and how much we should be looking after our beautiful world.

Secondary School – If your child is transferring to secondary school in September 2020 then apply for a place online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk. The deadline is midnight on 31 October 2019.

E-Safety Karl Hopwood, who is an online safety expert, will be here at our school on Monday 21st October at 5.00pm to deliver a presentation on what you can do to help your child stay safe online. Please do put this date in your diary and try to have at least one representative from your family attend this event.

Consultation We are consulting on our Relationship Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education policy. Please find them on our website under Information for Parents -> Consultations or follow this link: http://holy-trinity.co.uk/consultations/ or ask for a hard copy at the office. If you have any comments to make, please send them into the school in writing by Friday 4th October so that Governors can take your views into account as they determine the final policy.

Recorders There are no recorder lessons on the 4th October as Mrs Jenkins is involved with the Westbury Music Festival.

PFA News

PFA AGM – Our annual AGM will be held next Wednesday 2nd October at 2:30pm in school. We encourage anyone involved with the school – parents, grandparents etc. to come along and hear all about our PFA. If you are new to the school, we would love to meet you and welcome you into our PFA community. There is no pressure whatsoever to participate, just come along to hear about what we get up to.

New Chairperson & Secretary – This month the current chair of the PFA Lisa Downing is stepping down. An opportunity is now available for a Chairperson (perhaps with a Deputy Chair to work side-by-side) and Secretary to take on the mantle.

The PFA provide the school with opportunities to fund activities and put in place support for parents be it social nights, tea and coffee at school events or second hand uniform sales.

LISA “I’ve really enjoyed the role and am looking forward to seeing what ideas people may have to support the work that the PFA do.  The role itself is to really support members of the PFA, link into the school and to co-ordinate events and PFA meetings. I’d be more than happy to meet with anybody interested in the role and you don’t need any previous involvement in the PFA”

Involvement in the PFA is a team effort, with many parents, grandparents etc. helping out in whichever way they can. It is truly rewarding as all the funds raised directly benefit Holy Trinity children by contributing towards new equipment, activities and outings.
