Newsletter 37 – 12th July 2019

Dear Parents

Sports Day Thank you to all our wonderful children who showed such great aspiration and compassion as they strove to do their best and to make sure everyone had a good experience. The Year 6 children were amazing as they cared for the younger children and made sure equipment was ready as it was needed. Yellow team won the Sports Day trophy, but all the teams won various trophies for events at sports day and throughout the year, including the swimming gala, pancake races, intraschool rounders tournaments and so on. Thanks also to our parents and other family members who came along to support the children so strongly. And a huge thank you to Mr Amor, whose outstanding organisation ensures a smooth, exciting and fast-paced event each year, to Mr Gyllenspetz who had overall charge of the events on the day, and to our team of staff who work so hard to ensure that sports day is fun for all. Thanks also to our wonderful PFA who provided the children with refreshments throughout the morning.

We are also delighted to report that our team of athletes, who competed in the area Quad Kids tournament at Bath University and won it comprehensively a few weeks ago, and went to the next round against big schools in Swindon, Salisbury and other centres, came second in the whole county by a single point! What an astounding achievement for a little, rural school! We are so proud of them – so much determination and courage required to achieve such an outcome. My thanks to Mr Amor and all the teachers who ensure that children are challenged to be the best they can be in sporting events as in all areas of their lives.

Key Stage 2 Statutory Assessments (SATS)

Once again, our children have achieved outstandingly well in the KS2 SATS – realising outcomes that will see our school placed, in the top few percent of all primary schools in the country as we have been for many years. We are very proud of our children – their commitment and aspiration shine out of all learning they do in all subjects. My thanks, also, to our whole team of talented and inspirational staff who ensure that every child is supported and encouraged to be the very best they can be. These data are unvalidated as yet, but will be largely unchanged at validation. Further analysis, including progress measures, will be released in the new academic year. In many areas, this will be a record breaking year for us – the number of children working at Greater Depth is hugely impressive.

As ever, we emphasise that this is just a snapshot of a narrow area of the curriculum and, whilst we are delighted with the outcomes, it is very important to note that our children achieve so much more than this, in all areas of the curriculum. Their spiritual, moral, social and cultural outcomes are also outstanding, they are fine young people and their talents and gifts add richness across a huge variety of areas.
