Newsletter 36 – 5th July 2019

Dear Parents

Midsummer Night’s Dream What a tremendous performance our children in Years 3 and 4 gave this week, as they treated us all to an abridged version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream! It is a comedy, and the children certainly made us laugh. It is wonderful to see their confidence and their enjoyment in performance. We are so proud of them all. Our sincere thanks to Mrs Goddard and Mrs Jones for producing and directing the play and to Mrs Hayward for her sterling work with small groups and prompting. And of course, to William Shakespeare for writing the play!  We raised £143.39 from your generous donations, half of which will be sent to a charity of the children’s choice and the other half towards our drama and creative arts resources – thank you!

Seaside trip The children in KS1 had a wonderful trip to the seaside at Bournemouth on Wednesday – they saw some amazing things in the Oceanarium, had their lunch on the seafront and played on the beach. We had several passers-by comment on how exceptionally well our children behaved, having fun safely and sensibly. My thanks to the teachers and TAs in KS1 who took on this significant responsibility so that our children could have this great enrichment opportunity for their topic of “Under the Sea”.

Cathedral Trip  Children in Year 6 enjoyed a trip to Salisbury Cathedral where they took part in the activities arranged for Year 6 leavers from across the whole Diocese. After a morning of drama, dance and art, they had lunch and then took part in a short, interactive service. This is the first of our “Leaving” celebrations that the Year 6 children will have this term, as they prepare to move into secondary school and we prepare to say farewell to them.

Sports Day Please feel free to join us for Sports Day on Wednesday 10th July, starting at 9.15am. We will provide some chairs but you might want to bring your own in case there are not enough.

We ask that you keep well clear of the track and that you do not position yourself in front of the winning line but rather stay in the areas designated along the south side of the running track. It becomes very complex for us to manage if there are non-staff adults mingling in amongst the children whilst we are trying to run the sports day events.

Please do not call your child over to you during the Sports Day events – every child must stay with their team for the whole morning until the lunch time picnic. We run a very tight timetable and we must have every child exactly where we need them all the time. You can share all your comments and hugs during the picnic.

If you have a T shirt or a ribbon or some other mark of the colour team that your child is in, please encourage them to wear this – we can then identify their team more easily.

We should be finished by 12.00pm, when we have a short prize giving. Feel free to bring along a picnic to share with your child on the field after the prize giving. When the bell rings at 1.00pm, children will line up and lead into school for the afternoon session and can be collected as usual at 3.00pm.

School Eucharist A quiet moment of reflection in this busy term – the school Eucharist will take place on Wednesday 17th July at 2.00pm. There will be singing, dancing, readings and reflections. Everyone is invited to attend. This is always a lovely event.

Year 6 Leavers’ trip Year 6 children will go on their final outing as a class to a mystery destination on Friday 19th July. Please make sure that you have read the notices going home about this and send children to school with a packed lunch and the other items mentioned.

PFA Our thanks go, as ever, to the PFA for the amazing summer fayre last Friday – what fun we all had!

Silbury class restaurant A reminder that in the afternoon of Tuesday 16th July, Silbury class will be holding their restaurant in the hall for their parents. You will have received your invitation.

Award Ceremony and Leavers’ Assembly On Monday 22nd July, we will have an assembly presented by the Year 6 leavers, as they review and remember their days at primary school – lots of laughter and tears at this event! At the end, we will have our awards ceremony. We have 10 awards, presented for academic achievements, sporting achievements, artistic achievements, music, fellowship, services to the school and so on. Parents of Year 6 children will be given priority for seating but all are welcome to attend.

Last day of term Tuesday 23rd July is the last day of term. Everyone from Year 1 – Year 6 is back to school on Tuesday 3rd September. Foundation Stage children start with their half days on Monday 9th September.
