Newsletter 15 – 11th January 2019

Dear Parents

A very happy new year to all our families!

Christmas Thanks All our teachers, support staff, admin staff and I thank you very much for the gifts and, more especially, for the lovely cards and comments you sent us at Christmas. These are very much appreciated.

Parent-Teacher Meetings Please note that we have had to change one of the dates for the Parent – Teacher meetings in March. These meetings will now be held on Monday 11th March and Wednesday 13th March. As usual, you will be offered the opportunity to make an appointment online closer to the time.

Tesco website Our Tesco uniform embroidery service, from which you can purchase your child’s school uniform, was not functional over Christmas for some reason, and one of our parents received the following message from Tesco after placing an order.

I would like to inform you that the Tesco School Uniform Embroidery Service will close on            12 February 2019.

I’m pleased to share with you, however, that our current supplier has set up an alternative service: My Clothing. They’ll offer great value as well as support for schools through their donation scheme. We’re working closely with My Clothing to make sure it’s a simple transition for schools and parents. If you’ve already placed your order with Tesco this will still be fulfilled.

Governors  We are delighted to welcome two new governors onto our Board of Governors. Mrs Stephanie Cadwgan, who was appointed by the Members as a Foundation Governor, and Mrs Kathy Smart, elected by the parents of the school. We are very fortunate in having a highly skilled, engaged and committed Board of Governors. Our external advisor recently wrote this:  I was incredibly impressed by the depth of the governors’ strategic knowledge of the school and by the skilful way in which they combined challenge, support and care.  I wish that I could bottle their skills and take them around with me!

The role of Governors is to

  • Oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent
  • Hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

Management of the school is delegated to the Headteacher.

Cooking lessons We are very fortunate to be able to offer all our children short courses in cookery. This is not a formal part of the National Curriculum but is one of the extras we are delighted to provide for our children. The sequences of lessons are prepared and delivered by Mrs Ann Heath with great outcomes – the children prepare delicious food and learn skills not just in cookery but in nutrition, physiology, hygiene and healthy eating. We are grateful to the “Soap Box Derby” for donating funds towards a new cooker.

Hockey Tournament  Mrs Goddard is taking a team of hockey players to participate in a tournament with other local schools on Thursday 17th January. The children will be taken to Lavington School for this event. We wish them well and thank Mrs Goddard for organising this for us.

Facebook and our Website If you are interested in seeing photos of some of the things that take place in school, or if you would like more information on policies, staffing, governors, the school calendar, or many other aspects of our school, do visit the webpage at http://holy-trinity.co.uk/ . If you follow Facebook, you might wish to “like” our Facebook page so that you can receive the photos and other notifications which are sent out quite regularly. We never publish photos in which children might be identifiable, but you will be able to see many of the great things that happen here.

Primary School Applications Please remember to apply for a primary school place for your child if they will turn 5 between September 2019 and August 2020 (if their birthdate is between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015). You application must be with the Local Authority by 15th January 2019. We are likely to be oversubscribed so don’t miss this deadline if you want a place here at Holy Trinity. Even if you live locally, if you have not put in an application, you will have be considered under Late Admissions and then might not get a place here. You may register at https://admissions.wiltshire.gov.uk/prefs.php
