Newsletter 33 – 29th June 2018

Dear Parents and Carers

Year 3 and Year 4 Performances What amazing performances our children in Years 3 and 4 presented this week! They have been in rehearsal for only 3 weeks and the quality of the plays was superb. We are so proud of them all. Our thanks to Mrs Goddard and Mrs Jones who adapted, produced and directed the plays and to Mrs Penny Trusler and Mrs Hayward who worked so hard to support the children to reach this really astounding level of performance. What a great achievement!

Class Photos Mr Gyllenspetz took the class photos this week – one formal and one funny for each class. The order forms went out earlier this week. If you would like to order these, the cost is £2 per photo. I am afraid that the wrong end date was published on the order form – the end date is in fact Friday 6th July. We are sorry for any confusion. We will be sending the orders off on Friday 6th July for printing and we cannot take late orders so please get them in promptly. If you would like to see the photos, please come to the office as there is a set of photos for viewing. Because of new Data Protection regulations we cannot simply stick them up on the hall doors anymore. They are, as always, lovely photos. Mr G is an outstanding photographer.

School Reports End of year written reports for your children have been uploaded onto the Parent Portal. To access this go to www.holy-trinity.co.uk  and click on the parent portal pencil to login. If you have difficulty logging on, or if you have forgotten the password, let us know in the office and we will help you access the site. If you would like to have a meeting with your child’s teacher before the end of term to discuss their outcomes, please make contact to arrange this.

Parents welcome meetings This year, rather than having the parent welcome meetings at the start of the new academic year, we are trialling them at the very end of this year. These meetings will introduce you to your child’s teacher for the coming academic year, give you the chance to find out what the expectations are in that classroom and to ask any questions you may have.  Children in Stonehenge class will have their welcome meeting at the start of the new academic year as usual, so that our new families can take advantage of the meetings. For all other classes the welcome meetings will take place on Monday 23rd July at the following times:

5.30pm White Horse class                            6.00pm Sarum class

6.30pm Silbury class                                        7.00pm Avebury class

Hooke Court residential trip All parents of children who will be in Year 3 and Year 4 next academic year (those currently in Year 2 and Year 3) are invited to a meeting about the residential trip to Hooke Court that will take place in October 2018.  This meeting will take place on Tuesday 3rd July (next week) at 2.30pm after the White Horse French Café experience. At this meeting, you will be given the chance to receive information and to ask any questions you may have about the trip.

French Café experience Children in all classes except Silbury have invited parents to come along to a French Café experience next week at 2.00pm; Stonehenge class on Monday, White Horse class on Tuesday, Sarum class on Wednesday and Avebury class on Thursday. Parents should have received a “crib” sheet so that they can support their children with the vocabulary at their disposal. This is the first time we have had this event and it promises to be great fun.

Films  On the last day of term, Tuesday 24th July, we have a special reward celebration which is our Film and Ice Cream Morning. This year, the children have chosen two films which are PG rated. The films, and the reasons for their rating, are the following:

Paddington 2 – ‘Some action and mild rude humour’

How to Train Your Dragon 2 – ‘Adventure action & some mild rude humour’

If you would prefer that your child not watch either of these films, please let us know at the office. If we do not hear from you, we shall assume you are happy for your child to watch either of these films. (Both films are shown, in different rooms, and the children can choose which they prefer to watch.)

Our link to an Indian Orphanage school We recently had our regular annual visit from Anup Biswas, director of the Mathieson Trust music school in Kolkata. https://www.mathiesonmusicschool.org/  Anup himself was a beneficiary of Rev Mathieson who cared for poor children and orphans, and Anup, soon proving himself to be an exceptional musician, was sent to England in his teens to study music. He became a world famous concert cellist. He has spent his life supporting the work started by Rev Mathieson, and the orphanage has about 70 children who all learn several musical instruments as well as the usual curriculum. It is always a joy to welcome Anup to our school, to experience his amazing performances on the cello and other Indian instruments, and to hear about his plans for improving the lot of the poorest children in his area. His visits give our children an insight into the lives of other children in different circumstances and a different culture to their own.  We are raising funds to support his work through donations to our “Sharing Piggy Bank”.
