Newsletter 23 – 23rd March 2018

Last Day of Term is Thursday 29th March. Everyone is back at school on Monday 16th April.

Charity Afternoon Our very sincere thanks to those adults who joined with their children’s teams to support them with raising funds for their chosen charities. The afternoon was very successful with a great variety of events and activities to take part in, lots of soft toys to win, cakes to decorate and skilful games to compete in.  Over £330 was raised in total. Amongst the charities supported were the RSPCA, WWF, Air Ambulance, WaterAid, Muscular Dystrophy, Guide Dogs, Heart Foundation, Diabetes, Nestling Trust, Crohns and Colitis UK and Cancer research.   We are very proud of our children for tackling this challenge with such joy and enthusiasm.

Sarum’s Super Science Evening – Tuesday 27th March All parents of children in Sarum class are invited to the first Super Science Evening we have hosted in our school. Children, with their parents, will be given the chance to carry out some very exciting experiments in the hall and in their classroom, with guidance provided by the teachers and TAs. The afternoon of events starts at 3.30pm and will be finished by 5.00pm. If your child is at an afterschool club, you can come after you have picked them up. My thanks to Mrs Goddard and Mrs Jones who are pioneering this initiative.

Easter Church Service Please feel free to join us for our Easter Service in St Peter’s Church in Great Cheverell on Wednesday 28th March at about 9.30am. If you would like to walk down to the church with us, you are most welcome to do so.

Tag Rugby Tournament Mr Amor will be taking a Tag Rugby team to the interschool tournament on Monday 26th March during school time. If your child has been selected to take part in this, please make sure they have a packed lunch and that their permission slips have been returned to school.

School Disco Thank you to our amazing PFA who organised this very popular event. As ever, it was great fun and ran very efficiently. Our children always behave beautifully and enjoy themselves with enthusiasm, understanding how important it is to make sure everyone is having a good time.

PFA We are very fortunate in this school to have such an active and welcoming PFA. My sincere thanks to Annabelle Mackintosh and her team who work so hard to make sure that children’s school experience is enriched in so many ways. We are particularly grateful for the donations that the PFA is making towards the coach fares for off-site trips – the costs of which would otherwise have to be passed on to parents. As our budget is cut each year, we are having to make cuts to our expenditure in many places, and contributions from PFA and other local charities help us to continue to provide the outstanding and creative education that our children deserve.

Snow Day It was wonderful to enjoy an especially long playtime on Monday to revel in the snow. Some amazing models were built by Mr Amor and his team and there was lots of fun on the sledging slope, with children sharing their sledges and helping each other to have a great experience. Almost everyone was able to get into school safely – thank you for your resilience in this!

Parents picking children up from clubs A reminder that NO parent/carer may go into a classroom at any time unless invited by the class teacher or TA, particularly if there are children getting changed after a club. This is entirely inappropriate and is a safeguarding concern. You should pick your children up from the playground. Children might run in to change or pick up their bags, but parents may not follow them into the classroom unless invited to do so and accompanied by a member of staff.

Milk is available each day in school for your children from www.coolmilk.com. Whilst under 5’s are free, you have the option to pay for milk for your child if they are over 5. Go to the website to sign up.

General Data Protection Legislation (GDPR) Many of you will be aware of the new legislation which will come into force on 25th May 2018.  This legislation seeks to ensure that everyone’s personal and sensitive data is very carefully protected and that it is transparent for what reason the data is held. Schools are quite good at this already, having always had responsibility for holding so much very sensitive data securely, but you might notice a few changes over the coming months as we tighten up various procedures in order to be compliant with the new regulations.

Super Stars Holiday Club runs from Tuesday 3rd April – Friday 6th April.

Friday 27th April – JUNIOR BAKE OFF – this is being kindly organised by Carla Dudman. Last year we had many impressive and delicious entries. Time to get the aprons on again!

Saturday 30th June – SUMMER FAIR – Bigger and better than ever before with a CIRCUS THEME! Steph Davies has begun organising this event which will include the wider community. With all your support, this should be great fun & a fantastic fundraiser for our PFA!
