Last day of term is Wednesday 18th October. We all return to school on Monday 30th October for our exciting Christmas term!
Braeside If your child is going on the residential trip for children in Year 3 and Year 4, please ensure that you have completed a medical form for any medication they need. Remember to drop your child off at 9.30am at Braeside, but please do not park on the Braeside property as there is no space there. Please pick them up promptly at 3.30pm the following day. Year 4 children will be there on Monday 16th October and Tuesday 17th October, and then Year 3 children will be there on Tuesday 17th October and Wednesday 18th October. Please follow the guidance on the kit list when helping your child prepare and pack for the trip.
Parent/Teacher Meetings Please note that on Wednesday 11th October we will open the online booking system for parents to book an appointment for their progress meeting with their child’s teacher. The meetings will take place on Wednesday 8th November between 3.10pm and 6.00pm, and again on Thursday 9th November between 5.30pm and 8.00pm. Each appointment is ten minutes long – we are very strict about the timings so that other parents do not have to wait too long for their turn. If you do require longer, you can book a second meeting with your child’s teacher at another time. The earlier you book your slot, the more likely you are to be able to get the time and date that suit you. Please log in on https://holytrinityacademy.parentseveningsystem.co.uk
PFA As always, we are tremendously grateful to our wonderful PFA for all the work they do to support outstanding education in our school. Our thanks go especially to the outgoing committee who have done such a great job this year, and have really drawn the families in our school community together. And our very sincere thanks to the new committee who have so generously agreed to step up and lead the work for the coming term. Christmas term is usually very busy for the PFA!
Celebrations! The children in Stonehenge class have been using Celebrations as a theme and it was great fun to share their class party recently – with cakes they had baked themselves, paperchains they had made and plates that they had decorated. Such a lot of great learning has already been done through this theme!
Themes and Topics We are all enjoying the lovely art work that has come from the themes this term – including some beautiful paint mixing in the apple pictures and the landscape pictures, the fascinating Roman Mosaic fruit and vegetables, the carefully observed pencil drawings of Harvest gifts showing perspective and shading.
Cooking in School The children love their cooking lessons which take place every Tuesday afternoon under the leadership of Mrs Heath and her able assistant, Mrs Andrew. After several years of learning how to cook and bake from detailed recipes, this year the children are being encouraged to try to be a bit more creative – given a choice of wonderful, seasonal ingredients, what could they make? What a wonderful selection of amazing food we have tasted this term – apple and plum flapjacks, fruit scones, quiches and pies to name just a few. Our huge thanks to Mrs Heath who spends so many hours preparing for and delivering these cooking classes. We are very fortunate to be able to offer these lessons.
Harvest Donations We were delighted to hear that our school sent 110kg of food to the Foodbank in Devizes – the largest amount they have had donated from any primary school!! The Food Bank staff were particularly grateful that our school sent the items that they actually desperately needed. Thank you all very much for this tremendous effort. And thank you to our PFA who put up the lovely display in the hall and to Ruth Edwards who took charge of getting the donations to the Food Bank.
Policies Each year at this time I like to summarise in the newsletter some of our most relevant policies and procedures, so that parents are familiar with them. This week, we will discuss briefly the Attendance policy. We are very grateful to our families for supporting our school so effectively – we have outstanding attendance in this school and this contributes to the outstanding outcomes for children. It is a legal requirement for parents to ensure their children attend school regularly and are punctual. Any child whose attendance falls below 85% is at serious risk of underachieving. The school day starts at 8.40am. Parents are asked to inform the school, in writing, where an absence is planned e.g. hospital appointments, ballet exams etc. Where a child is absent due to illness, parents are asked to inform school by telephone in the first instance and by letter on the child’s return. If a child is absent and there is no notification from the parents, the school will contact the parents to ensure that the child is safe and to find out the reason for the absence. Should the child be absent without a reason for 3 days, the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) will be informed. Persistent lateness will also be reported to the EWO. Parents do not have a legal right to take children out of school on holiday. If there is unauthorised absence of 10 sessions (5 days) or more in any 6 month period with additional unauthorised absence being recorded within the previous 12 months, the Education Welfare Service will be notified and the Local Authority may issue a penalty notice to each parent for each child.

Greetings from your new chair, Patricia Genner – mummy to Jacob in Sarum and Maia in Stonehenge. I’m delighted to take on the role, as I love the spirit of the school and the way that the PFA helps all of us express it. I’m also extremely pleased we have Harriet and Kevin Cleveley as Secretary and Treasurer respectively, I know they’ll do an awesome job.
Firstly, an enormous thank you to our out-going team, chaired by Debi Bell-Hosking. The outpouring of emotion from the kids and parents alike in last week’s sharing assembly is testament to the fantastic job they have done.
We’d love you to come along to the next PFA meeting, Tuesday 17th October at 1.30pm, in the school staff room, (with tea and cake!) to get the ball rolling for the Christmas events. Your PFA needs you! We need idea-havers, organisers, bakers, makers, decorators, setter-uppers, stall holders and clearer-uppers plus many more to make it the best it can be.
If you can’t make a daytime meeting but want to get involved, there will be evening meetings too. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or write on the PFA Facebook page to tell us what you need.
Changeover or not, PFA business carries on regardless, with Emma Farebrother delivering another whopping 92kg for textile recycling this week. Your Cauliflower Christmas card designs are hopefully with Julie Stone already (deadline Monday 9th), and will be sent off soon. Thank you all for your continued support to both fundraising efforts.
We welcome and value your opinion. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact the Head teacher or Chair of Governors.
