Friday 26th May is the last day of this term. Children return to school on Wednesday 7th June.
Charity Afternoon Once again, our wonderful children excelled themselves on Wednesday. It was a joy to see that, even with so many children and so much excitement, behaviour was exemplary, caring and compassionate. Well over £100 was raised for the various charities and a great deal of learning was done by the stall holders. We are tremendously grateful to the adults who so generously volunteered to help the children and spent the afternoon supporting them.
Three of our children from one of the Year 6 teams took part in a live radio broadcast on BBC Wiltshire Radio in the studio in Swindon on Tuesday at 1.30. They chatted cheerfully and articulately about the charity afternoon and, at the end, Graham Seaman (the presenter) said to us that it had been great fun and our children were tremendous. My thanks to the children, and to Mrs Yates who made sure that we arrived safely and in good time for the show.
Forest Schools on Tuesday both Stonehenge and White Horse class will need packed lunches as they are going to Oxenwood for a day of Forest school activities. They will also need appropriate outdoor clothing, preferably long trousers, and wellies or trainers.
Forest of Dean All children in Years 5 and 6 will be going to the Forest of Dean on Wednesday 24th May at normal school opening time for their residential trip. We expect them back here on Friday 26th May at about 3.00pm. They will be very tired and will need to be picked up promptly. If the bus does run late, we shall text parents to let them know.
Please make sure that your child can carry and pack their own bag and that any prescription medication has the correct paperwork completed and has been handed in to the teacher. Please do not send any food or electronic devices except watches and a torch. Mobile phones do not work in the Forest and would, in any case, provide a distraction and too much responsibility for the children. If children want to bring a camera, please let them use disposable cameras since they are likely to get wet or lost.
This trip is always great fun, and a wonderful opportunity to learn more about independence, teamwork and courage, as well as all the other skills that are taught. We are very grateful to our teachers and teaching assistants who are prepared to take on the responsibility of a residential trip in order that our children can have such a great experience. Our thanks also to Mrs Yates and Mrs Edwards who work very hard to ensure that all the administration of the trip is smooth.
Year 3 Choir On Friday 26th May, the Year 3 choir will perform at Sharing Assembly. Do come along to enjoy some Boom Whacker music by our talented young performers!
Class Photos Our thanks to Mr Gyllenspetz who takes such wonderful photos of our children! He took their class photos today and you will be able to see the photos on the doors of the hall shortly. You can then decide whether you would like to order one (or both) of the options.
Music Concert A reminder about our music concert which takes place on Tuesday 23rd May at 5.00pm. Many of our children who do peripatetic music and music clubs will have been invited to play in this concert. Please check with your child whether they are involved. If your child cannot attend for some reason, please let us know as we have a very full programme. Children are asked to wear formal or semi- formal clothing (not school uniform) if they are performing in the concert.
Transition Stonehenge class will have a joint activity morning with the children and staff of the Old School Nursery on Monday so that the children who will be coming here in September can continue to gain familiarity with our teachers and TAs. The children will need a packed lunch as we shall be spending lunchtime at the Old School.
Fairtrade Presentation We were glad to host Jackie Thomas, from the Fairtrade Foundation, who came into school on Tuesday to tell the children a little more about the work of Fairtrade and also to promote an awareness of the need to ensure that everyone in the production and trading chain is treated fairly.
Trophies As we prepare for the final half term of the year, we would be grateful if you could return any trophies your child won at the Leavers’ Assembly last year. We need to have them engraved for this year’s prize giving. If you know of any children who have left our school and have a trophy, please ask them to return it.
Parental Supervision I have been asked to remind parents that children need to be carefully supervised when they are playing across the road in the park after school. It is not fair that residents in the area have to deal with unsupervised children impacting negatively on their lives. Please make sure that you can see your child at all times.

We have received a wonderful letter from Mrs Henning and the school Governors, thanking the PFA Committee and Members for the recent donation of £2000 towards ‘food & cookery’ and visitors to the school for the next academic year. (We will be circulating this letter to our members shortly.)
This decision to redirect PFA fundraising from ‘theatre lights for the school hall’ towards fun elements of the curriculum that face being slashed due to budget cuts, was voted on and agreed at our last meeting. (In the long term we can investigate a possible grant towards the theatre lighting.)
Ultimately, It’s YOUR support that has achieved this!
We have an incredibly dedicated Core PFA Team and Treasurers who volunteer so much of their time and ideas – but equally so, we have fabulous Parents, Grandparents, Guardians and Friends who lend a helping hand.
Thank-you AMAZING ‘Parent body’ because without your support our fundraising events wouldn’t even get off the ground.
Let’s keep it up, our collective efforts are going towards great gains for the benefit of our children and it feels good to do something worthwhile!
