Dear Parents
Assessment week We are, as ever, very proud of the way our children approach this week – with courage, optimism and determination. They do their best and enjoy meeting the challenges presented. My thanks go to our outstanding teachers and TAs who make sure that children are very well prepared for the assessments and that the children do not feel unduly stressed by them. We are also very grateful to our wonderful parents who have supported their children so effectively without putting pressure on them.
In the Year 6 SATS, we had two assistant headteachers of Lavington School come to sit in on some of the assessment sessions to help us prove the integrity with which we deliver the tests. They confirmed that “Your systems were rigorous and robust”. We are also very grateful to Mrs Farebrother, a governor, who came along to check that the tests were carried out with the utmost probity. It is very important to us, as such a high achieving school, that we prove that our results are genuine and the outcome of outstanding teaching and learning.
It was lovely to see the children enjoying the great activities that they took part in when they had completed the assessments – the weather was kind to us and, at one point, we had nearly every class in the school outdoors completing various projects and working politely around each other.
Lavington Roadshow Please remember that on Monday 15th May, the Headteacher of Lavington, Sarah Lowkis, will be here in our hall at 3.10pm to give parents information about Lavington school and to answer any questions you may have. This event is for those with children in Year 5 or below. We encourage you to come along.
Thanks As the budget cuts to schools begin to bite hard, we are very grateful to the James Townsend Charitable Trust in Great Cheverell who have donated a generous sum to support our purchase of library books.
We are also extremely grateful for the donations from the Edington Station Yard Trust – they donated money to support music provision in our school.
We shall be increasingly reliant on donations such as this to help us continue to provide the outstanding, rich education that our children deserve.
Charity Afternoon Next week, on Wednesday 17th May, children will be given the opportunity to take part in a variety of games and activities organised by teams of their peers to raise funds for charity. If you would like your child to have a chance to wander around the school hall and enjoy the events, please send a pound or two in an envelope with their name on so that they can spend it on the various stalls.
Amongst the charities that children have chosen to support are Julia’s House, Cancer Research, RSPCA, WWF, Help for Heroes, Age Concern, Guide Dogs and British Heart Foundation. It is lovely to see the range of issues that our children consider to be worthy of support.
If you tune into Wiltshire Radio, on Tuesday 16th May at about 1.30pm, you will be able to hear some of our Year 6 children taking part in a live radio broadcast on the subject of this Charity afternoon. They will be in the radio studio in Swindon – an exciting opportunity for them experience live radio transmission!
Music Concert A reminder about our music concert which takes place on Tuesday 23rd May at 5.00pm. Many of our children who do peripatetic music and music clubs will have been invited to play in this concert. Please check with your child whether they are involved. If your child cannot attend for some reason, please let us know as we have a very full programme. Children are asked to wear formal or semi- formal clothing (not school uniform) if they are performing in the concert.
Trophies As we prepare for the final half term of the year, we would be grateful if you could return any trophies your child won at the Leavers’ Assembly last year. We need to have them engraved for this year’s prize giving. If you know of any children who have left our school and have a trophy, please ask them to return it.

PFA NEWS
We have a date for Quiz Night – Friday, June 23 – in our own school hall! Should be a fabulous evening for the grown-ups, flavoured with a bit of cheese and wine to get the brain cogs churning. Please save the date and more details will follow.
The Summer Fayre is also just around the corner – Friday, July 7, straight after school. This is usually a fun event for the whole family and we’re looking for your stall ideas. Do get in touch with your suggestions as the Fayre is such a feel-good event to get involved in. Chat to one of the PFA Team or email your thoughts and offers of help to dbproductions@btinternet.com – THANK-YOU!
And thank-you yet again for another bumper load of Fabric Recycle on Monday – weighing in at 120kgs! Emma Farebrother’s car was practically bursting at its seams delivering the bags of recycle to the plant. Your efforts directly translate into a further £60 towards our fundraising – fabulous!
Also, a quick reminder that School reception is collecting Sainsbury’s School Vouchers, if you have any.
Finally, we have a PFA meeting scheduled this morning with lots to discuss. We look forward to keeping you updated in next week’s newsletter. In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend!
