Newsletter 23 – 3rd March 2017

Dear Parents

Longleat Trip Our children had a wonderful day at Longleat Safari park last Friday. Because the animals had been kept inside the previous day with bad weather, they were all out and about on the Friday, enjoying the sunshine. The children saw the lions, wolves and tigers, the gorillas, seals and hippos and many of the children also walked around the beautiful Longleat House looking for examples of Lions in art and furniture. My thanks to all the teachers and TAs, and our generous volunteers who made the trip possible, and a special thanks to Mrs Jones who worked so hard to organise this very successful trip. Thanks also to the admin staff who do so much of the unseen work essential to making a trip like this possible.

Summer Choir For the Summer Concert Ms Sharman will be preparing some choir songs to sing at the school concert on Tuesday 23rd May. Anyone in Years 3-6 is welcome to take part in this. Songs haven’t been chosen yet, but they will be a mixture of traditional, pop and musical theatre. Practices will be on the following four Mondays, 3-4pm in the hall:

3rd April /24th April / 8th May /22nd May

The practices are rather spread out due to holidays and other events at school. Please complete and return the slip at the bottom of this letter to the office if your child(ren) would like to sing in the concert.

Sharing Assembly On Friday 10th March, at Sharing Assembly (2.15pm), all the children in White Horse class, Sarum class and Avebury class will be performing a song from the Lion King.

Mrs Wilding As we say good bye to Mrs Wilding, our thanks go to her for all she has done to support music so faithfully in our school for so many years. Generations of children have taken part in her wonderful, engaging music lessons and have learnt to love to make music. She will be very much missed.

Pilgrimage Day On Thursday 15th June, we shall take all the children to Edington Priory Church for a Pilgrimage Day. If you are interested in helping to run one of the workshops or to support a group of children, please let us know at the office, by email or calling in as soon as possible so that we can allocate groups and group leaders in good time.

Parking in Chitham Close and the staff car park We appeal to parents not to park in Chitham Close nor to block the staff car park as they drop children off. No child should be dropped off in or near the staff car park. Not only does it mean that our staff struggle to get into work safely, but pedestrians coming to school that way are put in danger and if there were an emergency, emergency vehicles might struggle to access the school. The area around Chitham Close should only be used by the residents of Chitham Close and by school staff at drop off and pick up times.

Online Safety for your children As our children engage more and more with the online world, the adults in their lives can feel left behind. It is really essential that we understand this virtual world that is home to our children. There is a very good website which will guide parents through the social networks that children might use and will give you a warning about any potential dangers. You find this website on

https://www.net-aware.org.uk/

We also strongly recommend that all parents have something like the Norton Family software on their computers and other devices, so that you have control of what your children are watching, playing on, accessing and who they are chatting to. If this is put in place when children are young, they will accept it – much harder to introduce it to teenagers!

Parent-Teacher meetings (Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th March) Please access the website through https://holytrinityacademy.parentseveningsystem.co.uk to book your appointment if you have not already done so. Each appointment is 10 minutes long and we aim to be very strict about keeping to these timings so that no parent is left waiting for too long.
