Dear Parents

Maths for parents A reminder that you are invited to a maths lesson with your child on Wednesday 25th January at 2.40pm. Come to school and join your child in their classroom to find out how we teach and learn the 4 main maths operations.

Gritting of paths In the case of icy conditions on the playground, we aim to grit the pathway from the main pedestrian gate (near the layby) to the children’s entrance into the school, and to the reception entrance. No other areas will be treated and we ask you to proceed with great care, keeping to the gritted areas.

Library Books We are still hoping to get some of our school library books returned! We are missing whole series of books, such as our Bear Grylls series of 8 books (none of which is in our library anymore!). Please check your child’s book case and return those with the school stamp. We do not have any system of fines and will just be grateful to have them back. Also, if you have unwanted books that are suitable for primary school children and are in good condition, please do bring them in to swell our stock of books.

Governors We have a tremendous team of governors who volunteer to serve on our governing body. They direct the strategic planning and general, overarching policies of the school, support the headteacher and hold her to account for high standards in all areas of school life – including the Christian ethos, Behaviour, Progress and Attainment, Child Protection, Health and Safety and Financial Management. They have no role in the day to day management of the school, of course – that is the headteacher’s role. Most policies can be found on our website or, if not, they can be requested at the school office. If you wish to talk to a governor about governance issues, please do so. They are David Graham-Wheeler (Chair), Jeremy Shatford (Vice Chair and Chair of Policy and Curriculum committee), Sam Gaiger (Chair of Premises, Finance and Audit committee), Ruth Edwards, Emma Farebrother, Vincent Albano, Gemma Ackerman, Rachel Dewar, Christopher Johns, Rev’d Andrew Sinclair, Dorian Amor and Mercedes Henning.

Cooking in School We are very fortunate to have Mrs Heath, who plans and prepares, and, with Mrs Andrew, teaches and supports the cooking sequences for each class and each group of children in our school. The meals they prepare are made from fresh ingredients, have as little fat and sugar as possible and are easy for children to make. Children learn a lot about healthy eating, hygiene, cooking and reflecting on their work through these cooking lessons. Tuesday afternoons are huge fun and the children are learning life skills that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives. Our very sincere thanks to Mrs Heath.

Counselling I have had a few parents ask me about getting counselling for their children recently. There are various services which you can tap into, either on your own or with a referral from your GP or school nurse or the school in some instances. These include

  • Mediationplus – for children whose parents have separated or divorced – phone: 01793 527285
  • Relate Mid-Wiltshire – for children who are emotionally troubled – phone: 0300 0031781
  • Health visitors and children’s centres support children up to the age of 5 and their families
  • School Nurse – the school will refer you to this service if you require their support
  • ASK – a family information service that offers free information to parents on a range of issues – helpline: 08457585072 or 01380 872915
  • Childline – for children themselves who are struggling for any reason – phone: 0800 1111
  • Samaritans – for adults who are struggling – phone: 08457 909090

Sick Children Because we stand in loco parentis whilst your children are in school with us, it is really important that we know about any illness or injury or concern you may have about your child. Please let us know about outcomes of visits to the doctor, test results, changes in medication, changes in routines etc so that we can look after your child effectively.

Stop and Drop Zone Our very sincere thanks to all those who continue to use the Stop and Drop zone in the layby effectively – this seems to be helping with the flow of traffic and helps us to keep children safe.

Cheverell Old School Nursery is full at present but will have spaces in the Autumn Term (September 2017) for 2 to 4 year old children. Future bookings now being taken. For recommendations on the setting, please speak to current parents about the Nursery’s provision.

At Holy Trinity, we are always very impressed with the education of the children who have come from the Old School Nursery – they are happy, independent, advanced in their academic achievements and very ready for “big” school. We have strong links with the Old School Nursery as our main “feeder” school, engaging in joint activities with the children and staff, and doing all we can to ensure a seamless transition for our youngest children.

Lataca are looking to hire a new member of staff to serve the school dinners at Holy Trinity. The hours would be 11:45am-1:00pm Monday-Friday, working in the KS1 dining area. Devizes Library are holding a free “Harry Potter book night” on Thursday 2nd February from 6-7pm. Come dressed up if you wish, suitable for 7-11 yrs. Book a place on 01380 726878.

PFA NEWS

Please join us for a meeting on Wednesday (January 25) at 2pm (before the ‘Maths for Parents’ sessions) in the school hall to hear about our new fundraising initiative and goals for the year  ahead – as well as events the PFA has in store and our figures for the last quarter.

Bring your own fundraising ideas too as there is a gap in the calendar for May/June when we could get creative! Ideas so far have been a ‘car boot sale’ or perhaps a ‘Boden sale’. All ideas and everyone welcome!

Thanks to all your support to date, the PFA has agreed to help fund a surprise activity for the children that Mrs Henning has up her sleeve – watch this space!
