Newsletter 19 – 5th February 2016

Dear Parents

Half term break Next week, Friday 12th February, is the last day of this half term. Children return to school on Monday 22ndFebruary.

White Horse Class Invitation to Parents If your child is in White Horse class, you will have been invited to come into school on Friday 12th February at 1.15pm to share some of the work that your child has done through the course of this half term on the Great Fire of London. These open afternoons are always great fun and we do encourage all parents to come along if they can.

Parent/Teacher Meetings You are formally invited to meet with your child’s class teacher again on Wednesday 9th March and Thursday 10th March. You will need to go online to book an appointment slot for this meeting, and the website for booking the slots will open on Monday 8th February. If you have more than one child in our school, it is worth getting onto the site and booking your slots early so that you can be sure that your appointments are close together. Each appointment is 10 minutes long and we are strict about adhering to that time. If you wish for a longer appointment after that meeting, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher to arrange this. The website for booking your appointment is: https://holytrinityacademy.parentseveningsystem.co.uk

Wiltshire Choir – Inspired by our success this year in various choir competitions, Ms Sharman has decided to enter the Wiltshire Choir of the Year competition, organised by the Devizes Eisteddfod Committee, to take place at the end of April. We are very grateful to Ms Sharman for taking on these challenges so courageously and to our talented children for throwing themselves into these challenges so enthusiastically.

Collective Worship We enjoy having different people coming into school to lead worship – from different Christian denominations or people with special vocations. This week, we were lucky enough to have Rev John Cowburn come to lead worship. He is the Chaplain for the Deaf for the Salisbury Diocese and it was fascinating to have him teach us how to say the Lord’s Prayer in Sign Supported English. He also signed the song we sang which was a really beautiful thing to watch.

Bluebell Wood We are very lucky to have a little piece of woodland on our site. The children are encouraged to walk quietly in this area, and to respect it as a habitat of animals and plants. At the moment, the daffodils are in flower and the bluebells are starting to grow so we ask the children not to run through the area as they might inadvertently damage the plants. The new outdoor classroom that is planned will have one wall set up as a “Hide” (solid but with a slit to look through) so that the children can sit quietly and watch Bluebell wood from the structure and, hopefully, catch site of the squirrels, birds and other animals that live there.

Charity Afternoon On Thursday 24th March, at about 1.30pm, teams of children from all age groups will be setting up their stalls in the hall to raise funds for the new outdoor classroom. Please send your child in with a bit of money to enjoy the mini fayre set up by their peers. Each stall’s activities or produce costs about 20p – 50p. My thanks to the adults who have offered to support teams working on this exciting project. It is lovely to see the enthusiasm with which our young entrepreneurs embrace this challenge, the creative ideas they have and the care they take to work effectively as a team. It promises to be are very interesting and fun afternoon for the whole school.

New School Uniform Supplier Whilst you can still, of course, continue to purchase your school uniform through the Tesco school uniform service, we have also commissioned a shop in Devizes to stock our uniform in case you would rather buy it in this way.

This is: Red Direct Clothing Limited, 4/5 Snuff Street, Devizes, Wiltshire, SN10 1DU

Gardening Club will start again on the 22nd of February 3pm – 4pm. We have reserved places for those children who are interested from last year, and have spaces left for new joiners. Gardening Club grows vegetables in the raised beds, maintains the flower borders and pots, and the willow structures within the school grounds. This year we will also be involved in the Rocket Science project which is part of Tim Peake’s mission to the International Space Station.

If your child would like to join Gardening Club please ask for an application form from the school office. Places are limited to 12. We are reliant on parent helpers to run the club, and those children who are able to be regularly accompanied by an adult will have priority in joining over those who do not. The rest of applications will be decided on a first come, first served basis.

This year we shall have to charge for sessions, and they will be invoiced in advance on a termly basis. The sessions will be £2.50 each. If you have any queries please call Liz Read on 07967 803420
