Newsletter 5 – 2nd October 2015

Dear Parents

PFA Thank you to all who attended the PFA annual general meeting on Wednesday – it is wonderful to see the huge support that our parents give to the school! The work of the PFA is wide ranging – they raise funds, support many projects and help to enrich the educational experiences of our children through the events like the Christmas party, Christmas gifts, Pancake Day, refreshments at sports day, Pantomime and so many more. Congratulations to Gemma Ackerman (Chair), Julie Stone (Secretary), and Mike and Amanda Green (Treasurer) who were elected on Wednesday night. Thanks also to the outgoing committee who had such a successful year and raised an extraordinary amount of money for projects around the school. Please contact any of the committee or the office if you are interested in becoming more involved with the work of PFA.

Governor Recruitment:  Last date for nominations is Monday 5th October. We have four vacancies coming up on our governing body. There will be vacancies for two Parent Governors and vacancies for two Foundation Governors. Please do not hesitate to contact the Headteacher or any of the governors to discuss this further and pick up nomination forms.

Parental Control Software – support for installation We are offering you the chance to bring your laptop, tablet, phone or other device into school on Thursday 8th October at 6.00pm to be led through the process of installing parental control software onto your devices. Please complete the slip at the bottom of this letter if you would like to attend so that we can plan the logistics of the evening. The slips need to be returned by Tuesday 6th October, please.

Harvest Assembly Thank you to all our generous families who have supported our drive for donations to the Devizes Foodbank. Your gifts will help desperate families to survive until more permanent arrangements can be made. Our very sincere thanks go also to our wonderful PFA who, with great flair, set up the amazing Harvest display which enhanced our celebrations this afternoon.

Edington Farm Shop Visit What a wonderful trip our youngest children had on Monday! They explored a market garden, picked vegetables which they transported to the local shop, set them up on the display, and then chose things to purchase for a meal that they cooked the following day in school. Thank you very much to Lucy Bates who made everyone so welcome and did such a good job of helping our children to understand the “Field to Fork” pathway, and to Lucy Nisbeck and her team for organising this trip.

Parent Portal If you have tried to register but have not yet received your password, would you check your Junk mail? Apparently some email providers are sending Parent Portal mail to Junk. If this does not solve the problem, please let us know in school and we will sort it out with the Parent Portal provider.

Traffic issues We ask all our parents to be very careful about parking when picking up their children – children’s safety is being compromised by dangerous parking. In addition, we have heard that a lamp post in Witchcombe Close has been knocked down because of access issues caused by people parking incorrectly at pick up time. The residents of Witchcombe Close have to pay for the replacement lamp themselves – and it is a very expensive item. Please park with care and courtesy – if there is no parking near the school, park further down in the village and walk up Green Lane, a pleasant walk during which you can chat to your child and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

Year 6 Secondary School Applications.  The deadline is 31 October 2015 (this date is within half term). Please apply using the online system through www.wiltshire.gov.uk

PFA

Thanks to all parents who helped create the lovely Harvest Festival display. A huge thank you also to all the parents who attended the AGM on Wednesday night. We had a fantastic turnout and lots of new faces. We now have a great support network to call on, ensuring that we can create those special memories for our children and provide them with all the nice extras that the PFA are there to provide. Gemma Ackerman will be the Chair this year, Mike and Amanda Green will continue as joint treasurers and Julie Stone and Lisa Downing will be joint Secretary. Last year was a huge success raising more funds than previous years. The Christmas & Summer Fayres raised over £1300 combined, Textile Recycling raised £488.50, Film Night raised £127.50 and the Christmas play refreshments & raffle raised £273.07. These funds and funds already in the pot were used to pay for the School Leavers trip and leaver’s book, the Pantomime trip in December, and new sports kit amongst other things. We have lots of exciting plans for 2015/16 in the pipeline which we will share during the year.   The next event is Film Night on Friday 16th October at 5pm. This is a lovely event where all the classes are welcome, with a cushion and a teddy, to sit and watch a film in the hall on the large screen, with popcorn and a drink provided for £1.50. Parents of Stonehenge children are welcome to stay if necessary but it’s a great opportunity for the little ones to sit with the bigger ones and enjoy their company.   Christmas Cards are coming! Each of the children are working hard on designing a Christmas card which you will have the opportunity to purchase soon. The designs and order forms will be sent home with your child on Friday 16th October. More information will follow.   We will also be having a Cake Sale at pick up time on Monday 19th October.  We can’t do this without delicious cakey donations from our parents. All cakes welcome on the morning of the 19th!   Don’t forget Textile recycling this coming Monday 5th October.   Please do join our Facebook Page – Holy Trinity (Great Cheverell) PFA
