Fun Evening Our very sincere thanks go to all members of the PFA who worked so hard last Friday to ensure that the Fun Evening was such a great success. The weather favoured the event, and it was a wonderful evening in which to enjoy the activities and the food provided. Many new families attended and it gave them a sense of the family nature of our school. An enormous amount of work and organisation goes into an event like this and we are very grateful to everyone who was involved, especially to the event leaders from the PFA.
We are very fortunate to have such a committed PFA – this term they have provided teas and a warm welcome to our new families as they start in our school, they have organised several fund raisers, will be providing refreshments for the Sports Day, will fund the Leavers’ trip and the Year Book and are in the process of planning and funding a very exciting wooden structure on our field. The contribution of the PFA enriches our children’s experience of school immeasurably and we thank them for all the work they do to ensure our school continues to be outstanding in all areas.
Solar energy project The children all had a lovely time at the solar park and learnt a lot about renewable energy this week. Our thanks to the Gaiger Brothers who funded this whole experience. Each class had a very successful workshop and trip, and this has helped our children understand the issues they will be facing on climate change when they are grown up.
Shakespeare Day On Thursday 9th July, we are having a whole day devoted to a Shakespeare production. Each class will have a workshop with a professional actor/director, each class will make scenery and props and will rehearse their part in the play and at about 2.15pm they will perform excerpts from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Parents are welcome to attend this performance. Children should wear black or very dark clothing on this day, so that they can be cast as any character. (School trousers or skirts in a dark colour and a dark T shirt will be fine).
Residential trip for Year 3 and 4 next academic year We have decided to take the year 3 and 4 children away on their residential trip at the start of the next academic year rather than at the end. We feel it might help the class to form a close knit community quicker and give the children a chance to get to know their new teachers even better. The trip will take place on 20th and 21st October, just before the October half term, and will take place at Braeside in Devizes. We will ask for fees in September, but just need an indication of numbers now. The children always have a wonderful time on these trips, learn a lot and develop a lot of life skills.
Leavers’ trip to the cathedral. On Monday 29th June all the Year 6 children will be going to Salisbury Cathedral for the joint Diocesan Leavers’ service. This involves a morning of workshop type activities and then a short service in the afternoon. It is always fun and a good opportunity for Year 6 children to reflect on their primary school days and on the fun and challenges that face them in secondary school. Children must wear school uniform and need to have their packed lunch in a disposable plastic bag. No fizzy drinks please.
French Concert You are all warmly invited to the French concert on Wednesday 1st July at 10.45. This is always a great event, with much laughter, singing, acting and dialogue in French. The children and Mrs Twentyman work very hard to ensure that the concert is entertaining for everyone.
Reports Your child’s written report will be available to download from the Parent Portal on Friday 3rd July. If you need a hard copy, please contact the school. If you are not sure how to access the Parent Portal, or have forgotten your password, please email us and we will help you.
Sarum Class Choir. At Sharing Assembly at 2.15pm on Friday 3rd July, Sarum class choir will perform the pieces they have prepared this term.
Music Holiday Club Our brass instrument and ukulele tutor is going to run a music holiday club from Monday 27th July to Thursday 30th July. Mr Gundry is a very talented musician and always makes sure the children have great fun, making music, making instruments and enjoying visiting musicians’ performances. Sign up forms for this holiday club have been sent home.
Sports Holiday Club Superstars will be running our sports holiday club in the week commencing Monday 3rd August and Monday 17th August. Again, this club is always very popular. You can sign up on-line. A letter went out about this last week.
