Last day of this term is Friday 27th March. We all return to school on Monday 13th April.
Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools We were delighted to receive the judgement of “Outstanding” in all areas of the recent inspection! The inspector told us that this is the first time she has given outstanding in all areas to any school – so a special delight to have achieved this with a very strict inspector. This inspection is particularly important to us because it checks that the Christian ethos and distinctiveness impact on all areas of school life – from academic achievement to spiritual, social, moral and cultural development. It was lovely to read her comments on how our children understand that you do not have to be a Christian, or indeed of any faith, in order to value and grow in spirituality, and that in this school, children are given the opportunity to do just that. This is where our aspiration, joy, courage and compassion come from – a strong foundation on the Christian values. As well as being impressed with our academic achievements, she commented on the exemplary behaviour, the enthusiasm and maturity our children show in their learning, and the outstanding relationships she saw across the whole community. It is a great privilege for all of us to work and learn in such an extraordinary and loving community. A full copy of the report was sent home on Monday to every family.
Football tournament We are very proud of our footballers who won the interschool tournament held at Dauntsey’s school last Saturday. Both the A team and the B team did very well – showing that we have a depth of talent in our school unmatched in the local area! My thanks to Mr Amor who organised and accompanied this sporting fixture, and to Dauntsey’s for providing high quality coaching every Friday and for organising this tournament on their football ground.
Dropping off in the morning We remind parents that children MAY NOT be dropped off at school before 8.30am. There is no one on duty to care for them, should anything go wrong. We are seeing increasing numbers of children playing out there, unsupervised and on their own before this time and this is not safe. We also expect that all children will be in school by 8.40am so that everyone can join with Wake and Shake and then walk into school together. This sets a cheerful, united and happy start to our day.
Midday Supervisory Assistant (MDSA) We would like to appoint another MDSA to work with our wonderful children during their lunchtimes on a Friday where a vacancy has arisen. We need someone who has experience of working with children, knows how to make lunch times fun whilst at the same time keeping clear boundaries in place and setting high expectations for good behaviour. The rate of pay starts at £7.11 per hour (Wiltshire Pay Grade B, points 7 – 9) and the contract would be for an hour and a quarter each week. Please ask at the office for an application form if you are interested in this post. The offer of the post will be conditional on checks, including the DBS checks, being satisfactory. References will be sought. Closing date for applications is Friday 27th March.
Mothering Sunday My thanks to all who attended this service on Sunday – it was great to see you all there, enjoying a relaxed and reflective moment with your families.
Handbells It has been a great treat to enjoy the handbells performances over the past two weeks at Sharing assembly. My thanks to Mrs Heath who gives up her lunchtimes to run Handbell club and to our children who work so hard to become proficient at this ancient skill.
Forest School Day The children of Sarum class had a lovely time in the woods all day on Wednesday, learning and exploring in an unusual venue. They enjoyed cooking over an open fire and learning something of forest crafts and the natural world of woodland.
Fuel Cell Car Avebury class and Mr G would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Dallamore who brought her fuel cell car into school and explained the workings of it. There are only seven of these cars in the country and it was great to be able to see one close up!
Science Event at Lavington This was a great event for our most able Year 5 scientists and they had a lot of fun whilst doing some great learning. We were delighted that our two teams came first and second in the competition to build a vehicle powered by a balloon! Well done, Year 5 scientists! Our thanks to Lavington school for organising this event for local primary schools.
Stonehenge class Wake and Shake For the week commencing 23rd March, the children in Stonehenge class will lead us in our morning Wake and Shake routine. It is great to see the enthusiasm and energy they bring to this and the confidence it builds – to lead the whole school in their routine is a great achievement! My thanks also to their teacher, Miss Nisbeck and their TAs Mrs Kamei and Mrs Trusler who have made sure this has been such fun. Mrs Trusler was the choreographer! Please come along and join in the morning dance fun.
