Newsletter 13 – 12th December 2014

Christmas Plays  Please drop your children off about half an hour before their performances – there is no one to take care of them if they arrive earlier than this. So, KS1 children should be dropped at about 4.30pm and picked up at about 5.45pm and KS2 children dropped at about 6.00pm and picked up at about 7.30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Please be prompt with picking children up – they will be tired and so will the adults looking after them!

PFA Please do volunteer to help our busy and wonderful PFA over this exciting Christmas week. Even if you can only offer an hour here or there, it would be greatly appreciated. It is fun to get involved with their events and projects and the more people there are, the less any individual has to do. Please chat to Perdy or Annabel or any of the PFA members or come to the office to put your name forward.

Crèche at Christmas Plays Please note, you need to have signed up for this service during the Christmas plays – and please bring along £1 to cover costs of the craft materials provided. Our thanks to Ms Sharman who has once again offered to lead the crèche, and to her team of volunteers.

BBC list of top schools We have made it onto another prestigious list this year! We are on the BBC list of the top 213 schools in the country on its measure (highest attainment in England). Follow this link to see the list http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-30422467 . As ever, I am immensely grateful to our superb team who tirelessly, day after day, provide such outstanding education. Thanks also to our supportive families, and, most of all, to our wonderful children for this tremendous achievement.

Carol Service The whole school will be walking to St Peter’s church in Great Cheverell on Thursday 18th December for a 9.30am start to our carol service. The children will have LED candles, there will be time to think about the Christmas story quietly and to watch the nativity scene being built up, and there will be wonderful singing. Please do feel free to come along and join us for this very special service.

Hockey We are delighted to have won the interschool hockey tournament again this year! My thanks to Mr Amor who manages our team so effectively and to the parents who came along to help. We are very fortunate to be part of the Dauntsey’s School outreach programme, which provides regular coaching and tournaments for local schools – the children’s experience of school sport is greatly enriched by this input.

Carol Concert Well done to our bell ringers and choir who did so well at the Carol Concert on Wednesday evening. It was a lovely event, with community carol singing and beautiful performances. My sincere thanks to Mrs Heath who organised the whole event, and Ms Sharman who has worked so hard with the choir. We are also very grateful to Mrs Wilding who accompanied the carols so beautifully. And of course, thanks to the PFA who provided mince pies and mulled wine at the end!

Tudor Afternoon We had a lovely afternoon in Sarum classroom on Thursday – parents were invited to come into school to enjoy an afternoon of Tudor activities with their children and to see some of the work they have done on this theme. My thanks to Mrs Twentyman who organised this event and Mrs Trusler who supported so strongly.

Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch  We had another wonderful afternoon with parents attending  the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch event held in White Horse classroom on Friday – they had lunch, entertainment and the chance to share children’s work. Thanks to Mrs Mehaffy and Mrs Cook who have worked hard towards this afternoon.

Online Payment Trial In response to requests from parents, we are going to have a free 30 day trial in January of a system that will allow parents to pay any moneys due to school online. If, at the end of the trial, it is clear that the system is being well used by parents and is working well, we will sign up to it permanently. After the first 30 free days, each transaction made by parents will incur a 32p charge. There is also a charge to the school of course, but if parents find this easier than coming into school or sending money in, then we will allocate the resources to enabling this system. Please see the attached note to help you sign up to the system.

PFA News

Wow what a blast we had at the Christmas Fair last Friday! Everyone had a great time and it was deemed a massive success, raising £300 for the PFA fund. Thank you to our helpers, those that ran stalls, children, parents and teachers who helped make it happen!

Next week it is Christmas party time!!!  Thursday 18th December is the Christmas Party, hooray! Every year we rely on parents signing up to the party food lists to help us give the children a fabulous party lunch on the day. Keep an eye out for the signs on class room doors and also a paper plate with a message attached in your child’s book bag. Thanking you in advance for what we know will be a great spread. If you could offer to help on the day, please tell the office or one of us.

As it is a party day children are allowed to wear party clothes on Thursday 18th December with sensible shoes as they will still be sent to play outside!

Thank you to volunteers who helped decorate the school, man the refreshments at the Carol Concert and all those who have helped in our preparations for the Christmas Party. We can’t do it without you.
