Newsletter 36 – 27th June 2014

Dear Parents

End of year reports  Your child’s end of year report has been posted onto the Parent Portal – please log in to read it. If you have lost your log in, let us know and we will reset it for you. Please note that you are most welcome to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher to discuss this report. Please contact them to arrange a suitable time for this meeting. We have not yet received the end of KS2 SATS results (they come out in the first week of July and we will aim to get them out to you within a few days once we have collated the data). We will also let parents of Year 1 children know the results of the Phonics Screening test when the thresholds have been published. KS1 SATS and Foundation Stage Profile results are discussed in the reports published today.

Hats and water Please make sure that your child has a sun hat and a water bottle in school so that they are safe in this hot weather.

Seaside trip What a wonderful trip our children had to the seaside on Thursday! My thanks to Mrs Mehaffy and Mrs Abbott who organised it, and to our TAs and volunteers who took such good care of the children. They did sand art, sketching, scavenging, learning about habitats, and had a wonderful time.

French Concert We are so proud of our children who confidently performed songs and little sketches in French on Wednesday at our concert – what fun it was! Thank you to Mrs Twentyman for all her hard work on this, and to the parents and grandparents who came to support the children.

Thank you! Our very sincere thanks to parents who are parking down in the village and walking up to school along Green lane and to those who are organising lift clubs to reduce the number of cars at the school. Your care and consideration for the safety of our children is enormously appreciated.

Sports day On Wednesday 9th July we have sports day, starting at 9.15am. We finish at lunch time and all parents are invited to bring along a picnic and share this with their children on the field. All those who have lunches from Lataca will be offered a picnic lunch on this day (see flyer sent home) – there will be no hot dinners. Do come along and enjoy what is always a tremendous event.

Silbury Class Entertainment   Parents of Silbury class children will attend the Grand Opening of the Graffiti bridge on Tuesday 1st July. They will have refreshments and entertainment and will be able to see the final result of the Graffiti bridge project. I do invite all parents to wander up onto the field over the course of the next few weeks to see the great work that our Silbury class children have done on this project. They have learnt some very useful life skills – working to a brief (I commissioned the work), working as a team, research for a project, execution of a project, delivery on time, problem solving, and of course all the literacy, maths, science and D&T that has been involved. We are very proud of them.

Art centre opening Please remember that you are all welcome to attend the Art Centre event on Wednesday 2nd July at 2.15pm. Have a look around the new building, and meet people who had connections with the building when it was the Preschool.

Bikeability The first session of Bikeability for Year 6 children will be held on the school playground on Wednesday – the second session will be held in the summer holidays at Fiddington Clay so there is a safe, real road to practise on.  Please check the paperwork sent out by the Bikeability organisers for details.

Link School in India Our children have been inspired by Anup Biswas to raise funds for his school and orphanage in India. At present, these poor children live in little more than sheds and Anup has a plan to build wonderful new dormitories and classrooms for them. Each brick costs about 10p and our children want to see how much of a building they could pay for. The money is already mounting up! At the end of the building work, our children will be mentioned on a plaque of donors and one day some of them may go and visit this very special school and see the work we helped with. Message from Lataca – Key Stage 1 Free School Meals   Due to the large numbers who are entitled to Free School Meals from September, we would like all orders in for them by Friday 11th July please. Key Stage 2 order forms have also been sent out, but again are available on our website.  Queries can be sent to payments@lataca.co.uk .
