School Meals Please be aware that you MUST order your child’s school dinner even if they are in the Infants and qualify for free school meals next academic year – the meals will NOT automatically be supplied. You will have received a menu and an order form. Please go through this with your child, select the meals they will enjoy and send in your order. If we do not have an order form, your child will not get a meal even if they are in the Infants and qualify for a free meal.
KS2 children will also need to put their order in this term to have meals for the start of the new year – these meals have to be paid for unless you qualify for Free School Meals by receiving one of the qualifying benefits (see Newsletter 32). All these forms will have gone out to you this week.
Message from Lataca – Key Stage 1 Free School Meals Due to the large numbers who are entitled to Free School Meals from September, we would like all orders in for them by Friday 11th July please. This will allow us time to process your orders, deal with queries and ensure we are ready for September. Every family has been given a copy of the menu and order forms for the new term; however it is also available on our website www.lataca.co.uk or from the school office. Key Stage 2 order forms have also been sent out, but again are available on our website. Queries can be sent to email@example.com .
Parent Portal Your children’s reports will be published on the Parent Portal. Please make sure that you can log in successfully so that you can access their reports which will be published by 27th June 2014. If you have lost your password, let us know and we will reset it. If your child is moving on to Lavington School, they will retain the same Parent Portal and login details.

Handbells What a wonderful performance by our young bell ringers at Edington Fayre! We have had such great comments on their performance and we are very proud of them. My thanks, as ever, to Mrs Heath for preparing them and for running Hand Bell club, and to Mrs Andrew who came to help on the day, as well as to the parents who made sure they were there on time and ready to perform.
Steam Museum Children in Avebury class had a tremendous trip to the Steam Museum on Wednesday – they experienced an air raid in a shelter and pretended to be evacuees on a train station. My thanks to Mr Gyllenspetz for organising this trip and to Mrs Heath and Mrs Andrew who participated so fully! The children behaved beautifully, as ever, and learnt a lot. The staff at the museum were very impressed with their subject knowledge. The reason we can take our children on so many trips is because they behave so well that it is a joy to take them out.
Link School in India We had a visit from the director of our link school in India on Thursday – he is a musician and the school is an orphanage that specialises in education through music. Children all play several instruments, sing and dance as well as learn the more conventional subjects. The school is called the Mathieson Institute and is run as a charity for children who are destitute or orphans. We always enjoy our visits from Anup Biswas.
Cricket for Year 3 / Year 4 We apologise for the confusion over the cricket last week – the sessions for Y3/Y4 have now finished.
Transition The deputy head from Lavington school, Daniela De Cet, came to see our Y6 children this week and discussed various issues with them. She also got lots of information and feedback on each child from Mr Amor. These meetings help to ensure a smooth transition to secondary school for our Y6 leavers.
