Dear Parents

Forest of Dean Residential Trip  Children in Years 5 and 6 will be on their residential trip from Wednesday 21st May to Friday 23rd May.  The children need to be in school at the usual time on Wednesday morning.  They will be back at school at about 2.30pm on Friday afternoon.

Children need to be able to manage their own luggage and to pack their own things at the end of the trip. Any prescribed medication, including asthma inhalers, must be registered with their teacher and a medical permission form completed (available at the office). Very clear dispensing instructions must be given. In addition, we will dispense travel sick tablets if required – again we need the medical permission slip to be completed with clear dispensing instructions. No other medication will be dispensed and children may not have any medication in their bags except asthma inhalers – this is to keep all children safe from possible allergies and ill effects of medication meant for someone else.

Please do not send food with your child – the food at the centre is very good. A very small pack or tube of sweets may be sent for the coach trip. Please do not send a lot of money – there is nothing much to buy except a few pencils and erasers – and a maximum of £2 may be sent to buy a memento if you wish.  No electronic games or equipment may be taken – but it is a good idea to pack a book and perhaps a pack of cards or something similar. Children may find it useful to have an alarm clock and a torch. All wet weather gear will be provided by the centre, as will all bed linen. Kit lists have been sent out. Some children like to bring a very small soft toy with them for comfort – please make sure it can fit into their overnight bag.

SATS and optional SATS We are so proud of the children who have written end of phase or summative assessments this week – they showed, as ever, great resilience, courage and aspiration, and managed to be cheerful and relaxed as well! The results of the KS2 SATS (Year 6 children) will not be available until the second week in July but we shall ensure that parents of these children are given the results as soon as we have received them back from the Government, analysed and annotated them. It is largely on the basis of these KS2 SATS that our school is judged each year by the government to be outstanding and our children continue to do their best each year and to excel. My thanks, as ever, go to our outstanding teachers and TAs who work so hard and with such commitment to ensure that our children are able to reach these extraordinary levels of achievement.

Class photos On Tuesday 20th May (next week) children will have their class photos taken. Please make sure they have the correct uniform on for these. We do not do individual photos at this stage in the year (they were done in the first term). Class Photos will be available to view on the glass doors of the hall as soon as they are printed and you will be able to order any that you like.

Uniform Governors have agreed that a school cardigan with the logo can be made available for children who prefer this to the jumper. The school uniform is available on the Tesco website at http://www.clothingattesco.com/icat/embschoolwear.  The jumpers cost £6.50 and the cardigans about £7.00. All school uniform items have free delivery. The cardigan option will be available on the site within the next few days.

Also, if you prefer to support a local business, one of our parents has set up a system with Galileo Clothing in Devizes (along Estcourt Road). Galileo Clothing will produce navy jumpers and cardigans with the school logo for £8.50 – you simply go in and order what you want and they will phone you to collect the order a few days later.

Pick up after clubs  We ask that parents are prompt when picking up children from after school clubs – it is challenging for teachers, volunteers and other providers to wait for parents to arrive to collect their children, when they may have other appointments to get to.

Monday 9th June – Textile recycling day – Great opportunity to finally bag up those winter woollies you don’t need!!

Friday 4th July – Summer Fayre.  A great event last year which we all enjoyed – we will be asking for helpers and donations, please put that date in your diary!
