Newsletter 38 – 19th July 2013

Dear Parents

Last day of term is Tuesday 23rd July and we finish at 3.00pm as usual. Children return to school on Wednesday 4th September.

We wish all our families a safe and relaxing holiday!

Virtual Choir Our children have had an experience of a Virtual Choir today – some of them have formed a little virtual choir and we look forward to showing you their work at Sharing Assembly early next year. We are grateful to Wiltshire College and to Mr Patrick Williams who led the project on behalf of the college. Some of you might have seen the item on virtual choirs on The One Show last Friday when Mr Williams gave an interview on this exciting technology. If you are interested in seeing some of his work, please click on http://cantoresconnexi.org/ and if you would like to see the work of a 6000 member virtual choir, Google “Virtual choir, Eric Whitacre”.

Leavers’ Assembly This event is to celebrate the achievements and fun that our Year 6 children have had in their years at this school. There are also a few awards that will be presented to children throughout the school. It will take place on Monday 22nd July at 2.00pm.

Music Sharing Assembly We heard some remarkable performances at last week’s Sharing Assembly by children who take music lessons outside of school – we are very proud of all the activities that our children participate in after school.

Bloodhound club Mr Henley has said he is prepared to continue to run the Bloodhound club next term – this is the club where children learn to make model vehicles and test them for speed and other factors. It has proven very popular. He will only take 10 children (years 4, 5 and 6) into the club and the first places will be awarded to those children who already attend if they wish to continue. He will have to change the date, though, and it will run on a Friday afternoon next term starting on 11th October and ending on 13th December. If you are interested in the club, please write into the school either in the coming week or early next term.

Walk to Great Cheverell Church We had a lovely walk to Great Cheverell church on Wednesday – it was very hot which is why we did not walk all the way to Little Cheverell church as originally planned, but we were lucky enough to have a cup of cold squash each at the pub which refreshed us for walk back. My thanks to Mr and Mrs Weston at the Bell who organised this for us. The service, led by Rev James Campbell, was a lovely reflection on our wonderful world and the children sang and read, as ever, beautifully.

Brass instrument tuition We are pleased to be able to offer Brass Instrument tuition next year if your child is interested in this. Look online for last week’s newsletter for more details.

PFA The AGM will be held on Monday 16th September at 2pm in school. Please do consider coming along and becoming part of this valuable support group we have in school. It is also a great way to make new friends and feel really integrated into school life.

Lost property  We will be recycling all the lost property at the end of this term. Please check through the box over the next couple of weeks if your child is missing items.  Anything left in school over the summer holidays will be recycled.

Real Food Cookery Club Mrs Geoghegan has offered to run a cookery club after school (from 3.00pm – 4.00pm) on Thursdays for children in Years 1, 2 and 3 in the Autumn term (so this is for children who are currently in FS, Y1 and Y2). There will be a £1 cost to cover the ingredients and children will learn simple food preparation techniques as well as learning about the nutritional content of foods. If the club is oversubscribed, places will be allocated on a “First Come, First Served” basis. Please complete the form below if you are interested in signing up for this club. The first day for the club to run will be 19th September 2013.

SuperStars holiday club will be running Fun Multi Sports/Dance Holiday Courses at the school from 29th July – 2nd August & 12th-16th August from 8.45am – 3.30pm daily. Book directly to reserve a place on 08452413682 or www.super-stars.org.uk or you can turn up on the day.

Children’s Movie Night.  Why not join us for a Swim, B-B-Q and short film at Brounckers House, Erlestoke on Friday 19th July and Friday 16th August from 6-8pm. Donations of £1 for food are gratefully accepted.  Children under five must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Parents are welcome to join us for the BBQ but please could you ring Chris on 01380 830204 to confirm numbers. (Don’t forget to bring your swimming gear and any swimming aids you may need!)

PFA  The PFA will be holding their Annual General Meeting at 2pm on Monday 16th September in the school. Please put this date in your diary and consider joining this valuable group of parents who support our school in so many ways. It is a great opportunity to make new friends and feel even more integrated into school life.

Holiday Club at Potterne Church Vicarage Garden This will run from 29th July to 2nd August from 10.00am – 12.00pm at a cost of £1 per day. Please contact Ann or Dave on 723189 for more details or pick up a registration form at our school office.

Best wishes

Mercedes Henning
