Holy Trinity Solstice Fair Come along this evening from 4.30pm – 7.00pm to enjoy our fair – there are many wonderful things to do and buy as well as great food. My sincere thanks to all who have worked so hard make this event a success and to parents who have generously donated.
Seaside trip Children in the Infants went to the Bournemouth seaside on Tuesday – they had a tour of the Oceanarium, ate their lunch on the beach and spent time creating wonderful sand models, collecting and sorting beach “treasures” and finding out more about our beautiful country. They have done some great writing about the trip – off site trips always inspire children to give of their best when they return to school. My thanks to Mrs Mehaffy, Mrs Abbott and all the staff who ensured the trip was so well organised. Thanks also to our volunteer helpers who came along to supervise the children.
Link School in India It was fun once again to welcome Anup Biswas, director of the Mathieson Institute which educates and cares for orphans in Kolkota, India. He is a graduate of the school himself and is a concert cellist, who travels the world, raising funds for the school. Our children enjoyed his short concert of western classical music and then had fun taking part in some Indian music making with the beautiful Indian instruments.
Phonics test This week, our Year 1 children had to take part in the phonics screening test that is a compulsory government requirement. We disagree with the idea of over-testing young children, and the test adds nothing to the knowledge we already have of our children, but we have no option except to comply. We aim to ensure that the children enjoy the experience and that it is not stressful for them. Our school did extremely well in the national league tables in this test last year, and the early data suggest that we have done very well again this year.
Facebook If you have Facebook and would like to join the Holy Trinity Facebook page, please go to https://www.facebook.com/holytrinityprimary and “like” the page. You will then receive our notifications and will be able to post on the page.
Links with other schools We always make sure that we have good links with other schools so that we can be sure we are adopting best practice whenever we see it and to support each other. This week, our teachers have joined with other local schools to discuss maths strategy and literacy strategy, I have met with local headteachers to discuss various leadership matters and we have had a meeting with Mrs De Cet from Lavington school to discuss transition into secondary school.
Sports Funding The government will be giving each school a grant to support sport in schools next year. We are hoping to use this to help those who do not much enjoy sport, to support those who don’t find sport easy and to help challenge our most able children. We also plan to purchase new equipment and to have specialist coaching in some new sports for all children in the school.
Edington Fair 2pm Some of our children will be ringing handbells at the Edington Fair tomorrow, Saturday 22nd June. If your child is involved please meet Mrs Heath at 3pm. The fair is held in the field behind the Three Daggers Pub in Edington. Please come along and support the handbell ringers and enjoy the fair.
Hot Weather Please make sure your child has a water bottle in school each day. They will also need hats when it is very sunny. We are not allowed to put sunscreen onto the children so please make sure that you have applied it before they leave home.
Lost property We will be recycling all the lost property at the end of this term. Please check through the box over the next few weeks if your child is missing items.
Holiday Club Our Superstars holiday club will run for two weeks through the summer holidays – 29th July to 2nd August and then 12th August to the 16th August. Children always have a great time at this club and you can sign up for a day, a half day or for the whole week. We had one of the coaches from the club come into school this week to demonstrate to the children some of the activities they will take part in – they are kept very busy with sports and other fun events.
