Newsletter 33 – 14th June 2013

Dear Parents

TD dates for next year Every year schools have to set 5 days aside for teacher training and update activities. Children do not come into school on these days. In the year 2013-2014 in our school these dates will be as follows:

Monday 2nd September

Tuesday 3rd September

Monday 2nd June

Tuesday 3rd June

Thursday 24th July

Facebook Following requests from parents, we have decided to open a school Facebook page. This will not change any other means of communication we have with our families and community but will be an additional way of communicating with the school. You will be able to post comments and questions (e.g. “Does anyone have my son’s jumper?” or “What time is the trip leaving on Tuesday?” or “My child really enjoyed the event today”). We will make sure that the school newsletter is published on the page each week. Other notifications will be posted on the Facebook page as well as in the usual media through which parents receive our communications. As with any means of communication, Facebook can be used improperly. We ask that parents use moderate language when posting on our page, and that the comments posted are suitable and inoffensive.

Please be aware that there are serious repercussions for data protection violations particularly if staff members are identifiable in any way.  The page will be managed daily to ensure that it is being used properly. If you have Facebook and would like to join the Holy Trinity Facebook page, please go to https://www.facebook.com/holytrinityprimary and “like” the page. You will then receive our notifications and will be able to post on the page.

We will continue to publish the newsletter and photos on the webpage at www.holy-trinity.co.uk and, of course, the newsletter and other notes will be sent out in hard copy as well. Text messages for reminders and short-notice changes to arrangements will continue to be sent out.

School Choir Ms Sharman has very kindly offered to run a school choir through the course of this term once again. It will run on Mondays after school between 3.00pm and 4.00pm. The first rehearsal will be on Monday 17th June. There are no auditions since this is not for competition – do come along and rehearse for a performance at the music concert. It is always great fun in the choir.

Induction of new children It was lovely to welcome our youngest children into school for their first taste of big school this week – we have 23 children starting in September in the Foundation Stage. We ask all our families to welcome the new families so that they quickly feel part of the school community.

Kaya Drums The children had a great time learning and performing native American rhythms on drums this week – my thanks to the PFA who funded this day of music and cultural learning for our children.

Class Photos will be taken on Friday 21st June – advance warning so that the children can wear their best school uniform with their hair neat and tidy!

China needed Please continue to donate china (any condition!) for a plate smashing stall at the Edington Church Fete. Please leave at reception or call Tracy Miller on 07948 688717 for collection.

Holiday Club Our Superstars holiday club will run for two weeks through the summer holidays – 29th July to 2nd August and then 12th August to the 16th August. Children always have a great time at this club and you can sign up for a day, a half day or for the whole week. We had one of the coaches from the club come into school this week to demonstrate to the children some of the activities they will take part in – they are kept very busy with sports and other fun events.

Strawberry Teas   The Annual Strawberry Teas will be held at Erlestoke Church on Sunday 23rd June from 2.30 p.m. Come and enjoy the Strawberries, Cream and Scones. All proceeds go towards Erlestoke Church.

Children’s Movie Night… Come and enjoy food, film and fun with friends, Friday 28th June from 6-8pm in Erlestoke Church. All are welcome but children under five must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. A light supper and pudding will be provided; donations of £1 for food are gratefully accepted.

Don’t forget it’s the Summer Fayre – Friday 21 June 4.30pm to 7.00pm.  The PFA are looking for donations of toys and books for a stall at the Summer Fayre, if you have anything suitable can you please drop off at school from Monday 17th June onwards and the PFA will pick up daily.  Also, mixing bowls at the ready, we are asking for your great cakes or biscuits – drop off on the morning of the 21st   June.

Best wishes

Mercedes Henning
