History in local area Mr Amor, who is leader of history in our school, would like to discover places of historical interest in our area – no further than about an hour and half’s drive from the school. We know about the big attractions (Chepstow castle, Avebury Manor, The Victory, The Mary Rose, Bath, the great Neolithic monuments in Wiltshire etc.) but we would like to find out about lesser known places. So if, over the holidays, you go somewhere that is fun for children and has a strong historical (or, indeed, geographical or scientific) interest, please let us know so that we can consider incorporating these places into our programmes of study.
School Choir Ms Sharman has very kindly offered to run a school choir through the course of this term once again. It will run on Mondays after school between 3.00pm and 4.00pm. The first rehearsal will be on Monday 17th June. Anyone in KS2 (Years 3 – 6) is welcome to attend. They plan to have a performance ready for our music concert on 11th July at 6.00pm. We have great singers in this school – do come along and enjoy singing together under the guidance of a very talented choir mistress. Please complete the form below to confirm your child’s attendance.
Dauntsey’s School Design and Technology Outreach Once again, our Year 6 children were given the opportunity to go to Dauntsey’s school and make use of their D&T facilities. The children designed and made lovely clocks on Thursday afternoon. We are very grateful for this outreach from Dauntsey’s School, as we are for their continuing programme of coaching that takes place on Fridays. This kind of enrichment adds to the children’s enjoyment of learning.

Childcare survey Wiltshire Council has a duty to assess whether there is sufficient childcare in Wiltshire to enable parents to work, or to train leading to work, as far as reasonably practicable. Your views will be invaluable in helping them to carry out that assessment. Childcare can be defined as anyone else (other than a parent or carer) looking after your child especially when you are at work, training or studying. This includes ‘a safe place to be’ for older children such as supervised activities after school and in the school holidays. The survey can be completed online at the following link: http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/parent-2013-survey.htm
Summer’s Here! We are so glad to see the sun – but we do need to protect the children’s sensitive skin from damage as the sun becomes stronger. Please make sure that your child has a sun hat in school every day. Apply sunscreen at home, if necessary (we are not permitted to apply sunscreen at school). Please make sure your child has a water bottle at school every day and that this goes home for washing regularly. Children are not permitted to wear open toed sandals or “crocs” – type shoes – they should be in school shoes. Please ensure that all clothing is marked with your child’s name since we lose a lot more clothing in summer as the children throw things off and forget to pick them up again.
Edington Scarecrow Walk This event will be held on Sunday 9th June from 11.00am – 5.00pm. Maps can be purchased for £2.00 from the Three Daggers or from the parish hall, where refreshments are being served. The theme is science fiction so there will be some strange sights to see in Edington on Sunday.
Open Farm at Rowdefield Farm, Rowde, Devizes SN10 2JE This event will also take place on Sunday 9th June between 11.00am and 5.00pm. As well as farm animals, hatching chicks and ducklings, and a life size milking cow, there are tractor rides, a straw slide, plenty of food and much more. It will be held mostly under cover if it should be raining.

In addition there is a section for your children to explore with quizzes and recipes to cook. We will be building this site over time, adding new resources for the children, keeping up to date on menus and order forms for you and making it as user friendly as possible. If you have any feedback on the site, we’d love to hear it – good or bad!
In the meantime, happy exploring and thank you for your continued custom. Best regards, Laura Taylor, Lataca Ltd
