Parents’ meetings with teachers Thank you very much to all our parents who came to these meetings – once again, we had almost 100% uptake by parents. It is this kind of outstanding engagement and support by our families that helps us provide excellent education for our children. Working together ensures that children’s outcomes are as good as possible.
Maths/SATS Evening On Monday 18th March at 5.00pm we will be offering parents the chance to come into school and find out how we teach maths. SATS test papers will also be available for you to look at if you are interested. Please complete the form at the bottom of last week’s newsletter if you would like to come to this information evening.
Library and Woodland Trip Stonehenge class went to Devizes Library and then on to the Drew’s Pond nature area for an exciting Bear Hunt on Tuesday as part of their work on “Books” – their topic for this half term. They were fortunate with the weather and had a lovely time. My thanks to Mrs Abbott and the other staff members who organised this trip and to the volunteers who supported them on the day.
Reading for Pleasure We are working towards ensuring that every child in the school will do some reading for pleasure each week – whether reading a book, a magazine, a comic or newspaper, something online, emails or any other medium. Children who read for pleasure do better academically than those who don’t. Please do encourage your child to read for fun. The child does not have to be accessing difficult reading material – they just have to be enjoying it.
As part of our initiative to raise the profile of reading amongst our children, the teachers spent some time reading a special book to a class that they do not usually teach after lunch each day this week.
Bluebell Wood The snowdrops are over now but the first daffodils are out in our little woodland area. Blossoms are out on the trees and we are hoping that we might see some birds nesting over the next few months. We encourage the children to behave very quietly, gently and respectfully when they are in Bluebell Wood, since it is a habitat for various plants and animals and the children are just visitors there.
School Packed Lunches Thank you for always providing such great packed lunches for your children – many schools struggle with inappropriate food being sent in for children’s lunches, but in this school the lunch boxes are all always a model of healthy eating options. This contributes to children enjoying school, enjoying their learning and making great progress.
Di’s Appeal Our Chair of Governors, Diane Gilpin, ran the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer in remembrance of Don Anderson, one of the parents in our school who died of this disease earlier in the year. If you would like to support her, please go to http://www.justgiving.com/Diane-Gilpin1 to put your donations to the cause.
