Communication with the school Please do keep in touch with school if you have any concerns at all, or if you would like to tell us something about your child, or if you would like to comment on something you are pleased about. You can email us, phone us, have a word with the teacher after school, pop into the office or write in the child’s reading record or homework book. You are our most important partner in educating your child and we love to have really good relationships with our parents.

School-led clubs Permission letters for clubs will be sent out shortly.  Most school-led clubs will start in the week commencing Monday 24th September. There is no fee payable for these clubs as our teachers and other people run them as volunteers, and the letters will make it clear which age group can be admitted and which afternoon or lunchtime the club will run.  These clubs will include Handbells, Winter Sports, Choir, Gardening, Chess and Art.

Other Clubs There are also some fee paying clubs run after school in the hall or on the playground by private coaches and trainers – those who have signed up for these clubs should already know when the first session is. These clubs are as follows:

Monday:                              Street Surfing

Tuesday:                              Drama

Wednesday:                      Dance

Thursday:                            Judo

Friday:                                  Ukulele

Gardening Club For all the children who already attend gardening club, the first meeting this term will be on this Monday, 10th September. They will stop meeting through winter and then in Spring, new people will be invited to join.

Swimming at Dauntsey’s School pool will start for Sarum class on Thursday 13th September. Whilst this activity is heavily subsidised by the school, a voluntary donation of £3 is requested for each swimming session since it is expensive – we have to hire the bus, the pool, a swimming coach and a lifeguard for each session.

Recorder lessons commence on Friday 9th September, please remember to bring your recorder to school!

Guitar lessons will start again next Wednesday, 12th September, please remember to bring your guitar into school.

New children  Our youngest children start school on Monday – many of their families are new to school and I do ask everyone to help them feel welcome and part of our community.

Sharing Assembly Please remember that sharing assembly takes place on Fridays at 2.15pm where children are able to share their successes and experiences with the whole school. All parents are welcome at this assembly.

Secondary School places Application forms have gone home with our year 6 children to apply for their secondary school place – please note that the deadline is Noon on 31st October 2012.

Primary School places We have application forms in school for children who will be four years old before September 2013. The deadline for these applications is Noon on 15th January 2013.

DMT Footlights (Devizes Musical Theatre Youth Group) invite any performers aged 8-16 to take part in an exciting musical theatre show this autumn. The show will take place on Saturday November 24th and will include songs and movement from popular young people’s shows, including Bugsy Malone, Little Shop of Horrors, Glee, The Wizard of Oz, Wicked, Grease, High School Musical and many others. Rehearsals will be in Devizes every Thursday evening (6.30-8.00pm) from September 20th. We will audition for solo songs, but auditions will not be necessary to join the group numbers. Anyone taking part in the show would need to become a junior member of DMT for the 2012-13 year at a cost of £5. If interested, please contact Liz Sharman on 01380 831332 or esharman@longwaterbooks.co.uk

PFA

The PFA AGM will be held on Monday 17th September in school at 2pm, at this meeting members will be elected and roles filled. If you are able to help out on the PFA, then please think about joining and come along to the AGM in September. We urgently need someone to take the Chair for this coming year – please do consider this post. You will be very well supported by the rest of the committee.

Best wishes
