Newsletter 33 – 1st June 2012

Dear Parents

Last day of this half term is today and we return to school on Tuesday 12th June – please note that Monday 11th June is a TD day.

Parent Portal The Parent Portal system allows you to access information held by your child’s school including school reports, attendance, and other information, from any Internet connected computer in a secure way. The system also allows you to receive email or text (SMS) updates from the school.

You will have your own log in details and a password to access only your own child’s records. If your child moves to Lavington school for their secondary education, your password and log in details will remain the same and will be the same for all your children whether they are at Holy Trinity or at Lavington.

Please register on the Parent Portal, and your details for log in will be sent to you within a week or two of your registration. You can register by going to our website on www.holy-trinity.co.uk and clicking on the tab on the left that says Parent Portal and then click on Register. The process for registration is straightforward, your details will be checked by the school to verify them, and then the log in details will be forwarded to you.

This year, we plan to release all the end of year reports to parents in this electronic format rather than in hard copy, so we do urge you to register with the Parent Portal as soon as possible so that you can access the reports on Friday 29th June. If you cannot access the internet, please let us know so that we can make other arrangements.

Pottery Club For all those who have signed up for pottery club, your first session is on Tuesday 12th June from 3.00pm – 4.00pm.

Bath University Sports Campus Trip The response to this trip has been excellent – thank you once again for all the support that makes our exciting curriculum possible. If you have not yet sent in the permission slip and donation please do as soon as possible.

Museum of Army Flying (Middle Wallop) The children in White Horse class went to a flight museum on Wednesday and had a wonderful time. Each child had a chance to take part in various activities in small groups; the weather was perfect and the day a great success. Thank you to Mrs Mehaffy for organising this, to Mrs Cook and the volunteers who accompanied the trip and to the admin staff who always ensure that buses are ready, risk assessments are in place and all the admin is completed so that the trips can go ahead.

Warmer Weather As we approach the warmer summer weather (with a bit of luck!) we ask that all children bring a sun hat into school. If they do not have a hat and if it is particularly hot, we may arrange that they play only in the shade. Also, every child should have a water bottle with them every day since they need to drink regularly through the course of the day to stay well hydrated. We are not permitted to apply sun screen to children so please ensure that this has been done before they leave home if it is necessary.

Indian music workshop On Tuesday, Anup Biswas, the director of the Mathieson Music Trust, a school for orphans and destitute children in Calcutta, came to do workshops on Indian music with each class. He is a tremendous musician himself and the work he does is inspirational. Our children benefit from his music tuition and also from learning about his school and the challenges that the school faces.

Sports Stars Holiday Club We are pleased to be able to offer this Holiday Club once again in the coming half term – it will run from Wednesday 6th June to Friday 8th June. There are a few spaces left so if you want to enrol your child on the day, please come along to the school to do so.

Holiday club will also run during the summer holiday in the following two weeks: Monday 23rd July to Friday 27th July and again Monday 13th August to Friday 17th August.

Erlestoke villagers are holding their Jubilee celebrations on Saturday 2nd June, please come along and join in the fun. At 10.30am there is a dog walk around the woods and at 1.45pm a children’s fancy dress parade with a red, white and blue theme (age groups 0-5yrs, 6-12 yrs & 12 and over). The street party picnic starts at 2.30pm, please bring a plate of sandwiches, savouries or sweet treats for everyone to share!

PFA

Summer Fun Evening – Friday 6th July (5pm-7pm) We are planning to hold a Talent Show during the fun evening. We held this for the first time last year and it was just fantastic to watch dance acts, singers and those reciting poetry.  You have lots of time to put together an act for this year’s fun evening, so if you would like to take part please drop a note in to the office giving the name of your act and what you will be doing.

In addition, we would like to invite all children to create a piece of artwork that we could put in a Gallery to be on public display during the Fun Evening. Use your imaginations, we just ask that you limit your creation to an A4 piece of paper.

We have decided to move the fun evening to an earlier time of 5pm – 7pm, which seems to be more convenient for many families. Louise George will be contacting those who have offered to help about the new timings.

More details will be given on the Fun Evening after the 1/2 term holiday.

Best wishes

Mercedes Henning
